[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A cenote is a sinkhole with exposed rocky edges containing groundwater. It is typically found in the Yucatán Peninsula and some nearby Caribbean islands. The term is derived from a word used by the low-land Yucatec Maya to refer to any location where groundwater is accessible. ( source: Wikipedia )

On our way to the 7th Wonder of the World, Chitchen Itza Mayan City we stopped at one of them for 45 minutes. The place was so crowded, I had to make a simple choice ( swimming or shooting....) You have the answer right there(^_^).


Technically: Unfortunately, we had a cloudfree day. We were there between 1145 and 1230hrs. I have tried many shots to capture an overall view of the cenote.I could not take a single shot without having an area overexposed or underexposed. Of course , I did not bring a big tripod to take a few shots using the HDR technique.

I have tried a closer plan to capture the essence of the mood and some of the swimmers. Water was running from holes around the cenote falling into it , Lianas, roots were falling down as well down to the surface of the water. Beside humans , fish were also visible in the water.

Of course I avoided to shoot the little man made pier and stairways to keep the natural aspect of the place.

Very nice!! I'd love to be there Robert. And the colours of the water are so pretty. You were lucky to get a photo with just these 2 people in it - it doesn't look crowded here.
Those hanging roots / vines are interesting

Hello Robert,
very nice shot. The vertical crop works here with all the vegetation hanging from the tree branches. The color of the water is amazing, and even that overexposed spot adds to the mood, very tropical. Great overall light, I wish I was there to take a swim :o)

Mm, that looks fantastic. I can almost here the tropical sounds, and smell the tropical smells!
Love the vertical shot, with the hanging vines and falling water accentuating the length of the shot.

A wonderful capture of this natural swimming water!
The waterfalls is marvellously captured with an adequate shutter speed to freeze it!
Beautiful lines of water and hanging roots!
