During my first visit to Chicago, IL in 1974 while working for The Associated Press on a hot summer's day I asked directions to the beach. I was told to head straight east in downtown Chicago and there it will be. Expecting a nice sandy beach on Lake Michigan to lie out on on my day off I was totally surprised to find this Concrete Beach crowded with the city's denizens. No sand in sight. But then a concrete beach was better than no beach at all.

Camera: Nikon F. Lens: 35mm Nikkor. Film: Ektachrome 100ASA. A very slight contrast done to this image.

Interesting to see this Joe - there seems to be a lot packed into this scene and the scan quality is excellent. I wish my scans were as sharp and clean as this.
The bottom half of the pic has higher contrast than the to but this works well for a summer photo - kind of expect haze around the cities in July..

Doesn't look very windy ;-)

Hi M. Joe,
Incredible to see that this photo is 25 years old!
The clarity is very well preserved.
This is a such unusual scene, the beach seems in the heart of the city! I don't dare to think at the hotness of this concrete beach, what can to cook an egg!
Bravo! Annie

Hi Joe,
Well this is certainly different! Can honestly say that I've never heard of or seen a concrete beach before - Thought my eyes were tricking me at first. Nice capture, looks good with the city reinforcing the background. Seems to be a fair few bikes there, certainly wouldn't want to run over anybody! Lol. Well taken.

TFS,
Scott.
