The deserters plead for mercy from their captors.
The veterans killed, and medaled,
lost arms, legs, minds.

Nurse, give me a shot to kill the pain!
John Hancock stands under the pouring rain.

Its hard to focus.

Hi Joe,
Very strong image, classic look with the sepia tone and grain. That is photojournalism, show the real deal. I miss seeing this kind of photography. Great light too.
Congratulation, and keep posting these oldies - very different from what we normally see.
take care
Robert

Brutal shot, Joe, and especially poignant to a Navy retiree. It reminds me of my uncles who served in WWII. Good ambient light from the window and the sepia treatment gives it a timeless look. I even like the grain. Kind of tough on the emotions, but VERY well done. Many thanks and warmest wishes,
Shelly

Hi Joe!

I read the poem; its very deep. One thing I've learned is that if I've never traveled down a path, I have no idea how dark, dangerous and lonely it may be. It would be offensive to pretend to know.

I thank you for your sacrifice!

Truthful documentary hurts sometimes, but that doesn't make it any less important. This is a strong and painful image.

Thanks for posting these kind of shots Joe - always good to remind some people that their freedom didn't come from giving out garlands of flowers (nice would it be so easy).
Gritty shot, compositionally good and the sepia tone gives a dated look....

I taught a guy to fly years ago when I worked Stateside (I was a wet behind the ears flying instructor of 20 LOL) who'd been a doorgunner in a Huey over in 'Nam - told me some horrific stories!!!!!!

Cheers

Hi Joe,

Emotionally this is a gut-wrenching shot. You have superb photo-journalistic/documentary skills and have captured the mood and concept well. The graininess suits the photo perfectly. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Best regards,
Werner

Hi M. Joe,
Strong and powerful image from your archives!
I read your Hard To Focus poem! I am touched by your words and the images you put on them. Very sensitive and, almost hyperrealistic point of view, on the world and on your inner space. Thanks for this sharing!
Annie
