I met this little girl at a playground. At first she wasn't talking to me because all the other kids were crowding around and clamoring for my attention.

When the other kids went to play on the slide, she stayed near me. With a very serious face, she told me, "Someone killed my mom."

I looked up at her, startled. Did I hear her correctly?

"Someone killed my mom and my dad," the girl repeated.

"Really?" I asked.

She nodded. "It's not good to kill people. I wouldn't like it if someone killed me."

She is only 4 years old. How young the children lose their innocence in today's world! Did I even know what killing was when I was 4?
