Labor Day Parade: fun for the whole family, especially the children!
I used to be in this parade each year, dressed up like a big teddy bear. It was fun because all the kids would run up and hug me, but it was also hot and itchy. Better to be like this girl, cruising along in comfort in a hay wagon. What is she playing with? I don't know, but it is keeping a smile on her face even though she is not out there getting candy with the other kids.
The float is a "Support Our Troops" float, which means that this little girl probably has a daddy in the military somewhere. The yellow ribbon is symbolic, a way of telling the soldiers that we love them and we hope they will come home soon. Military children sometimes live where their fathers are stationed, but if their fathers are sent somewhere dangerous, the children and their mothers stay at home, praying that Daddy will come home safe. The young children don't really understand why their father is so far away. |
