TL, meet Wotan, the youngest wolf from the pack.

He loves taking pictures, and makes funny faces and poses. Looking at his behaviour, again make me think how much wolves are social in nature.

Wotan is learning under Renki's guidance how to push objects. He started pushing buttons of wolves from the pack, including Tirstan, the leader of the pack.

He's got personality and power. Park staff thinks that Wotan may be the next Alpha of the pack.

The heckles (fur) on the body of wolves makes us understand their mood. If they are standing only on neck, with ear straight in the air...means they are attentive and excited.

if heckles are standing on all of the body, but tail is in between their legs, they are aggressive, but giving warning that I won't do anything unless you attack.

if heckles are staning all over body, and tail horizontal, the lines on forehead tight together...its is definitely ATTACK.

Now its spring, and they will shed their winter coat of fur to face hot summer.

Again, all these things we learn in the Safety class before the photo shoot.

In workshop you'll find another photo of Wotan .
Happy Sunday, and thanks for visit.
Vandana

Hello Vandana
I had the luck of visiting a wolf breeding farm in Alaska where I got to pet several of the wolves. Contrary to what people think wolves are gentle.
Its a great shot of the wolf and surroundings and I find you very lucky to be able to take these photo shoots.

Hey - no frame! And I love it!
Because you have a very string subject here, Vandana... and a perfect portrait. I love the low PoV, you were even under his own height, so he's looking down on you.
He does look strong. Thanks for the bonus shot, I think I like it as much as this one, if not better.
My compliments!

Thank you for introducing Wotan to us, too, Vandana! He seems to come towards the viewer here, rather curious and not afraid at all. I also enjoy reading your description of his character. - Cordelia :))

Hello Vandana,
Again a great portrait of a noble animal.
Highyly impressive facial expression. TFS
Selahattin E

Yes Vandana, I can see the hair in his neck is standing up - a good thing that you had instructions first, so as to know the mood they are in. With cats I know what to watch for - but wolves are quite a different story.
Great picture of Wotan!
Love reading your notes on the wolves.

Again it is so perfect, Vandana. I love that you have educated us on how the body language is so important. I have to admit though,, even knowing what you have said, this posture would intimidate me. I have a healthy respect for wild animals. He is just so beautiful and you have done the beauty so much justice. Excellent.

Your wolf series are very interesting, and not only, from little I've seen so far from your gallery...promise to take a better look.
Excellent capture of different textures and earthly tones. This version is far more expressive than the ws version, in my opinion, but both are very well taken!
TFS!

Great picture. I like the pose.

Hi Vandana
I share the same passion as you seem to...Wolfs. Infact thats why i have a German Sheperd because she resembles a wolf.

Beautiful colours in this shot. He seems to blend very well with the surrounding hues.
Great Shot...(as always)

Hi Vandana,
I had almost close my window seeing the intriguing eye contact (That was the best part of this shot). Wotan looked very serious with his expression here. I was relieved, he made me feel easier with his pose and expression in posted WS.

I envy you Vandana :)- for having such a very interesting wild life shooting experiences with those wolves. Thank you very much for sharing us those shots.

Hi Vandana
What a great picture! You did well to get so close and the POV is excellent too, I especially like the low angle. Your pictures in this series are all remarkable, you seem to have an affinity with these magnificent animals. This fella looks lean and mean, perhaps you're right about him becoming the next leader of the pack.
Well done!
Best wishes
Bill

Hi Vandana,
Again with a great shot of this smart animal,
You definately enjoyed the photo Shoot.
He is giving you a great pose,
Very well done,
TFS..

Vaibhav...

And this is where his name came from (old Indo-European cultures): Wotan is also the god Odin's name in Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungen. A truly royal name, and I would agree that with a name like that he'd soon emerge the Alpha Male in the pack.
Cheers
Otto

Great experience you had here. Yes, he has a funny expression -- well captured. I like the photo in the WS even better -- mostly because of the sun lighting his fur and his eyes are in even better focus. The water is more special than solid ground too. Just my opinion. TFS. K2
