"Rounding the bend I saw a nightmare!
Ozone's Up, Beware! It's a killer that
can't save your life".
On a hot day in July, 1974 I was driving north on Interstate 65 on my way to Chicago, IL, when this nightmarish scene appeared in front of me just outside Gary, Indiana. What a horrible testament to what man did to our atmosphere during the years before sanctions were posted against factory pollution such as this. But the damage was done, and could not be undone. Just a couple years ago I drove the same route and was so very happy not to see the same thing at the same location.

Hello Papa joe
Thanks for the info. I saw the same in the early 70's going thru Jersey. Thank God for our ever improvement in this area. Cool image from long ago.
Regards
Jimmy
Powerful and dramatic, this is a shot that could be well used in ongoing publicity ... because there are developing nations with skylines that must look every bit like this today.

Hi Joe,
This is a powerful image. As least we've become more cognizant of the harm we're doing to the planet. I like the graininess in the shot, it adds to the statement you're making. TFS
Best regards,
Werner
A fantastic older image that tells a story. Times sure have changed. I really like the gritty edge that this image conveys. The road also leads the eyes right into the factories and smog. Dramatic!
As others have said, a powerful and dramatic image - the thumbnail really stood out in the gallery and the larger version didn't disappoint. I really like the graininess in the shot, it certainly adds some mood.
Regards,
Phil
