From the Indianapolis Whitewater Gardens. This is the first year for these Amazon hybrid giant water lilies at the garden. I was there when the gardener measured the largest diameter at 54 inches. She told me they are night bloomers and reports the first night when the blooms are in the white phase they are quite wonderfully impressive. Unfortunately I have not yet been there to capture this event. The bloom in the far left was late in the afternoon of the second day. The sun had taken its tool and dried out the hazy purple second phase bloom. Common size lilies and blooms are in the right frame for comparison. If you search Amazon lilies on the web you will find pictures of the pad supporting the weight of an infant. The pads themselves are lined with thorns on their undersides to prevent fish and others from nibbling on them.
I realize the photo is not the best. And would appreciate advice on how to capture the grandure and size of such unique plants, Were three pads too much for 1 frame?

Everything is good about this photo! Nice job, Donald

Hi John,
Great saturated colors and a very stunning composition. The leafs create a good leadline. Maybe a rotation to the left would help to balance the photo. I also feel you sharpened the photo a tad too much.
TFS,
Niek
