[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I decided to make a painting from one of my Lamb Lake photos. The reason I did it was that more blur was in this one due to the wind and long exposure.

I have been using CS4, Photoshop Element 7 and Corel. I don't know how to do all that I want to do on one program, and some functions are easier on others...at least easier to find for me.

On Element paint brush bright dabs and noise reduction. Element lets one control the noise reduction better than Corel.

CS4 added a red filter

Corel added the frame and soften part of the water more.

I don't remember the sky being that blue when I took the photo, so that must have been done on Element.

I know many of you do not like the painted look, but for me, I like the creative aspect.

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

An interesting experiment, Dennis. Lots of commendable effort on the PP. The colors are wonderful. I'd like to see the same scene sharp and as is, too.

Regards,
Jim

Hi[short for hello,as Dr. House would say]this picture sure would make a great watercolor. You did get a most harmonious effect. You could remove that grey intrusion in the upper left.Have a nice day Otto.

Very hard colors .
Great efect .

Hi Dennis,
Great look about this picture, it does look like a painting, nice recovery of a picture. I had one a while ago of my wife's cousins girlfriend, she was notoriously hard to photograph but I caught her on the edge of an image, when I blew it up there was a lot of noise on it so the only thing to do was turn it into a painting.
Your picture is a great shot full of autumn colour with plenty of movement. It reminds me of a Bob Ross picture. TFS

Hi Dennis,

I guess this goes more toward your goal of incorporating art into your photography, so I think this is a pretty good start. Since I'm not the artsy type, the one thing I would suggest is to eliminate the blueish-grey area in the upper left third of the photo.

Have a good evening.

Werner

Using clone/copy techniques to "fill in" foliage in a shot like this is challenging - most of all because it's easy to replicate parts of the image but hard to make them look different from the bits they mirror!

i.e. the trees on the left, which have been "constructed" from the foliage in the centre of the shot; or the fact that the same tree appears twice within a short space around the left 1/3rd of the frame.

As an alternative, you can 'select' a tree, copy it to a new layer, flip it horizontally. That way, as a mirror image of itself, the repetition effect isn't so obvious.

Bright colours and composition both work well.

Dennis, you did a wonderful job with the paint tools. Good work!
