The 60th Mile
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This picture was taken at the finish of the Twin Cities 3-Day, a 60-mile walk to raise money for the Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer. The woman in the front is Jean, a 10-year survivor. She and her husband, Tim (behind her, with hand raised), decided to walk to mark the anniversary.
I walked with my friend Jim (about to high-five Tim), whose sister is fighting her 9th recurrence in 10 years.
The best part of the 3-Day was meeting people like Jean and Tim, regular people who have faced extraordinarily difficult and frightening challenges and have come out on top.
Knowing how bad we were all hurting at this point, the joy in Jean and Tim's faces reminds me of how indefatigable the human spirit can be. Sixty miles, screaming muscles, blisters under toe nails, shin splints, sunburn, but no pain as we celebrate with new, good friends and allow ourselves to bask a bit in an overwhelming rush of triumph. |

Hi Michael,
Your picture is a bit light, but who cares!!!
The story behind it mans so much!
I hope never to be dealing with anything this difficult and I do admire those who fight it and how they fight it!
Points for you, my friend... and for those dealing with cancer...
Greetzzz,
Anna
