[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This past weekend was a much needed Thanksgiving break for all those who are in school (such as me). It was a time of thanks, foods, family, friends, and photos. On Saturday night, fellow TL member akula802 (my buddy from high school) and I broke out our respective cameras for the first time in quite a while due to school and work obligations.

We ventured to downtown St. Paul to Rice Park to shoot the 60 foot plus Christmas tree and lights. As this kind of subject is not normally either of our forte, we soon started to look for other things in the area to also shoot. This bench caught my eye not only because of the repetition but also due to the reflection of the city lights.

After a few hours of shooting we headed back to the suburbs and also back to reality. School and work awaited us both on Monday.

This is a cropped version of the original photo (which I will post as a workshop, check it out and let me know which works better). I cropped it long because I thought it matched the shape of the benches better, and I wanted a chance to add a "widescreen" frame like I have seen and liked on other TL member's photos in the past.

Adjusted levels, cropped, and added black borders in PS7. Comment, critiques, and workshops are always welcome; thanks for looking and reading.

Jeff,

I prefer this one by a large margin. This is a really nice shot. Love the tones here, and the widescreen effect is great. Very nice perspective! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jeff,
What a beautiful photo, with such a great POV and DOF. The street lights really gave this cold steal bench a warm feeling. The curving lines are making this a really stong image.

Niek

i like this shot better than the worskshop one too, although they are both great. and i like the framing. so many people would have just passed this up and missed a great photo. i am glad you caught it. thanks for sharing

Hi Jeff,
I like the dominant warm gold in this shot, contrasted with the black detail on the arms of the benches. You chose the better crop to post.
Good luck on finals,
Karen

Hi, Jeff,
It is the cropped version that I like more. Probably because of the close elbow-rest of the original... Who knows? But I like the point of view on this one, with the amazing reflection of the light over the surface of the benches. And also of the details of the not so close elbow-rests (or however it is called).
Regards, Evgenia

I almost would have cropped it even tighter with the zoom, but this works out beautifully. I must have missed these yesterday...

Hi Jeff,
