Another photo from my outing this past weekend with fellow TL member akula802 (check out my original "widescreen" post if interested). This was taken at a park somewhere in St. Paul overlooking the river. The reflections of the lights hanging on the trees over this drinking fountain caught my eye. This was my favorite shot out of all those I took of this particular subject.
Although I normally do very little post-processing I felt that this one needed more than the usual to make it really "pop" and give it the look that I intended when I was shooting. I have posted the original photo as a workshop if you are interested in before and after.
PP included adjusted levels, greatly altered color balance (removed all red and added a little yellow), increased saturation and contrast, cropped from the bottom (where there wasn't much going on), unsharp mask (100%, 100.1 pixel radius), and added "widescreen" frame.
Comments, critiques, and workshops are always appreciated (especially since this is my first HPP photo); thanks for looking. |

Very good composition and also wonderful PP work to enhance this picture, Jeff. You have given it a "chritmas feel" with all of the colours reflected in the fountain. My only thought is that I am wondering if you should have done a tighter composition so you would not get part of the outside of the fountain or if you should have included the entire circle of the fountain...not certain about it. Well done!

best regards.

Very neat shot. Great colors & comp. Pp work is nessesary in that the camera chips do not record as our eyes preceive, and correction is generally always needed to adjust for those differences. Of course, some carry this too far lol! Nicely done. Out of points for the day.
Hey, this one turned out nice! I like the HPP version a lot better. Removing the red channel is common for that type of shooting, if you don't so it, it dominates the others and gives a washed-out looking image. Nice PS work, I was looking forward to seeing this one.
Ohhh, I always remembered this photo from a while ago. The reflections and colors are so awesome and the POV with the lights is great. Good with the water spout off-center and very sharp. I like the bold frame you added for it. TFS!
