[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is from a recent trip to the St. Louis Zoo with my photo safari buddy Scott Hale. He got a great shot on the Tulips, and all I got was this heron photo.

I read in a recent forum here where someone was complaining about nature photography on this site. I hope everyone does not mind, but it is what I do best, even if it is not all that great. Besides, how can you not like a face like this!

Yellow-crowned night-heron Nyctanassa violacea

Length: 21 inches Wingspan: 44 inches
Sexes similar
Fairly small, long-legged, short-necked heron
Tucks neck in close to body in flight and often at rest, rarely extending it
Black bill
Leg color varies with age, as with Black Crowns
Long legs, with feet and part of legs extending beyond tail in flight

Hello Scott!

A beautiful shot . Lovely POV and DOF . The details are sharp where it counts. Well done. I added it to my favorite birds theme . Well done !
Robert

Hello Scott

A very good portrait of this heron.Well focused with sharp details.I like the detail in the eye and plumes off the head especially. The way the water was captured is neat too.A very nice BG.TFS

Hi Scott - as always, you've caught great detail in the bird - the feathers, beak, eye - all wonderful stuff. I'm having fun trying to interpret the look on his wee face...!

Being picky, I think I'd have liked to have seen his eye more to the right of the image as we look, it's maybe a little too central for my tastes.

But that is nitpicking - this is a fine image to add to your collection - well done!

Scott,
I like the detail in this guys plumage. You caught a "squint" of catch-light and perfect DOF. The log behind him, added to the central-ness of this guy actually makes the composition more interesting. I like the bokeh and the light that highlights his beak.
Very well written notes! I shall NEVER complain about your nature shots.....they have singlehandedly made me a better photographer!
Scott

Hi Scott,
I post all sorts of photos, I figure if I have to travel to get there...it counts!!! Keep posting Scott we love your nature shots!
This is great, I am waiting for him to fly off my screen! Very colorful, wonderful pov with the focus on his eyes, great textures and clarity, thanks for sharing,
Fran

Wow..razor sharp.
A fine composition, nice colours my friend! A good posting!

"... complaining about nature photography on this site..."
Scott I do hope that it was about some hairy homo sapiens rather than our fine-feathered friend here!

This shot is razorsharp! Gosh given that you have more excellent shots on TN, it should encourage folks to also visit there!

Did you do any TL stuff here that you can not do on TN?
< Cloning out? More PP? > Just asking, not suggesting!

Hello Scott,
A sharp portrait!
It is a beautiful bird and well captured, the reproduction of the plumage is delicate and true to the natural colours!
A well composed presentation!
Greetings,
Pablo -
