Orchids III

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Ok, here is orchid shot number three for the week. I have gotten some interesting tips regarding how folks think these photographs look and the amount of saturation and distracting frame, so I have endeavored to be mindful of those tips while also trying to apply a bit of the technique used by a master orchid hunter and shooter, rintile. I didn't want to imitate, just use a bit of his post processing technique. I didn't follow his lead exactly, but enough where you might notice a similarity.
Before I posted this one, I re-processed it a bit in PS CS2. I de-saturated the yellow flowers about 25 points (yeah, they were that bright!) and then desaturated the frame, which was using the color of the orchids, about 35 points to dim it down. The background was always pretty dark, but there were some stems that faded off into that darkness and while doing so turned a little noisy, so I cloned them out. Then I used the magic wand to select all the black inside the frame and applied the surface blur filter to spread some of that yellow around behind the flowers. In doing so I obliterated the top internal lighter yellow frame bar, but left it like that.
So, let me know how you like this sort of processing on these captive orchids from the St. Louis Botanical Garden Orchid Show. |
