We saw the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team play the Pittsburgh Pirates last week, it was the third game of the season and a lot of fun, even if it was a little cold. The start of baseball season is yet another sign of spring!

This was taken in the second inning, when the Cardinals right-fielder Ryan Ludwick started to steal second base. I had a feeling he was going to start running so I kept watching him through the viewfinder with one eye while watching the pitcher wind up with my other eye. As soon as I saw the pitcher commit himself to throwing the ball, I saw Ludwick take off, so I pushed and held the shutter as I panned with his 90 foot dash. This is the best result, I thought, I like his placement in the frame and how his number is sharp but the rest of him slightly blurred, in action, running as fast as he can.

He was safe, too. Ludwick is swiftly becoming one of our best players, he's really exciting to watch!

Well, I'll be leaving real early tomorrow morning for southern Missouri, I have to give an employee some good news and I like to do that in person over a lunch of his choice, so I'm going to try to catch the sunrise at one of our state parks on my way down there. Maybe you will see the results on Saturday!

This caught my eye Reed. Great placement of the base runner in the bottom left. I also like the grassy areas top and bottom ... a good frame for the shot. I like the blur of motion in the runner, but somehow the rest of the shot seems a little bit 'in motion' too .. a little blurry. Still a good shot that caught my eye.
Do you make it to a lot of games? I'd love to attend major league baseball someday. None anywhere around where I live, unfortunately.
Have a nice weekend Reed.

Very nice minimalistic shot Reed! For a minute I thought it was a bird, like the one a shot about two weeks back! This is really nice, good that he is running INTO the frame! Nice work as always!

Hi Reed
I don't like baseball (I don't understand the rules indeed) but I like your picture. Very well seen.

Hi Reed,
Great motion picture adorned with warm colors and lighting. The baseball player is well placed on the right corner leading us to the whole length of your capture.
Well done. Regards.

An interesting catch of 'motion' - well composed too in it's simplicity.. The top and bottom framing with the grass adds an element to the composition too..

I'm a cricket man myself! Haven't got a clue about RBI, bottom of the innings, curve balls etc.. No - for me it's a 'six', 50 overs and a 'googly'....

Cheers
David

Hi Reed!
