The Howitzer...

A defenseman from the Williston Coyotes fires off a slapshot during second period play, at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks. Williston lost to Grafton-Park River in the end, but it was a solid game for both teams.
Ah, high school state championships. Being in the midst of that atmosphere brought back memories (I say 'memories' even though high school was only four years ago). Taken with an EOS 20D, and a borrowed Sigma 120-300 f2.8 telephoto, from over the glass in the penalty box.
This photo represents one of the many reasons I have been unable to shoot on my own lately. This photo, along with one other that I personally didn't like, appeared in the Williston Herald newspaper in Williston, ND.
Sigh. I'll be back soon with 'my own' stuff, I just purchased a bunch of new stuff for night photos...

Excellent details for an indoor hockey shot. I usually end up with mine to grainy from the high ISO settings. I'm hoping to get into the penalty box for the next game (the glass is terrible where I live) so hopefully it will clear them up.
Well composed and nice job on the white balance.

Hi Brian,
Well done on this shot and composition.
A little bit of retro, the skate's laces. Add it to the Scav hunt.!!!
Mike
nice capture man...i can especially appreciate this one because i have been working hockey for athletic training since november...i like how the stick appears to be curved and the blade blurred from the force and speed of the shot...must have had the shutter speed a little to slow to completely 'stop' the action...what night photo stuff did u purchase...just curious...peace***
Good to see some highschool level shots, brings back memories of playing ( I was even a defenseman #7 how about that). I've been trying to take some shots like this, and hopefully they will turn out as well as yours. Well done Brian!
