Summer Lightning

It takes a real storm in the average person's life to make him realize how much worrying he has done over the squalls." -- Bruce Barton
This is actually a composite made with two similar images. I was in a friend's 5th floor apartment in downtown Grand Forks one night, and a pretty powerful thunderstorm passed over us from the West. I had the student newspaper's camera, a Nikon D2H, along with a 24-60mm lens and a windowsill. Unfortunately, I didn't have a tripod, so the 30 second exposures were taken with great care.
As great as care can be after a night of bar hopping, anyways.
I started playing around with zooming the lens in and out during the exposure, and I thought the effect was pretty cool. I tried to get a good lightning strike down the center, but it didn't happen, so I had to make this composite using an image captured earlier in the night.
Enjoy.
