Old Green Eyes

Meet Buddy, our three legged (and perhaps alien?) cat. He lost a leg to a persistent infection about two years ago, but is still going strong, chasing the neighboring cats away and keeping the rodent population in check.
He was moping around on the bed and I decided to make a permanent record of his mopery. I was curious about the unusual reflection in his eyes and researched the phenomenon.
A number of nocturnal animals have a structure in behind the retina called the tapetum lucidum, which serves as a reflector, increasing the eye's sensitivity under low light conditions. Because of this structure, cats can typically see about seven times better than humans under low light conditions. It limits the sharpness of vision in bright light, however, and I have seen Buddy lose a prey animal during the day when the animal stands still in plain sight. |

Three legs are obviously all Buddy needs. Missy lost the end of her tail after she had been run over and the end was crushed, several months later it was obvious it wasnt healing and the vet said it wasnt unusual for a tail to react like that and he took the rest of it off and within hours she was a different cat. No more sore tail and infection and she has never looked back. I love the colour of Buddys eyes,
Diane
Beautiful picure of a beauticul cat.
Good for you for keeping and helping the cat. A lot of people wouldn't have given it any efforts.
TFS.

Hi Greg. An interesting note about this eye colour phenomena. The photo is well arranged and cropped to perfection to show him off well. Wonderful fur coat. Murray.
