Despite its size, the cliche of 'big city; small-town feel' is a reality here. Cincinnati's downtown neighbourhood is compact and with little effort you can reach - even on foot - lovely hills overlooking downtown and the Ohio River.
Cincinnati is a genteel, attractive city with a clutch of art deco buildings and an active riverfront. It's a good place to kick back, ride a paddle wheel boat, chow on the famous chilli and shake your head as you realise that Jerry Springer was once mayor here.
There is no major lure unless you count cheerful typicality - sociologists have ranked Cincinnati one of the nation's most 'typical' cities, by whatever statistical or demographic measure. It was also rated as the best city in America in which to live by Places Rated Almanac in 1994 and generally is in the top 20 of any such ratings. Winston Churchill purportedly called it 'the most beautiful inland city in the country.' Visitors to town may find a wander through one of its well-preserved 19th-century neighbourhoods and a meal or two make a pleasant stop. There are also many cultural attractions to consider, and a couple of sections of the downtown are experiencing a revival of sorts.

Orientation
Cincinnati is in the southwestern corner of Ohio on the northern shore of the Ohio River. The downtown area, known as 'the City', is less than a kilometre and a half north of the river. Neighbouring Covington, Kentucky, is just across the river to the south.
The heart of town is Fountain Square, and the city centre is contained by the Ohio River to the south, Mount Adams to the east, Liberty St to the north and Central Ave to the west. Vine St divides the City east and west. Most of greater Cincinnati lies within the 16km (10mi) radius of I-275.
The Greater Cincinnati International Airport is across the Ohio River in Kentucky, about 16km (10mi) southwest of downtown Cincinnati. The Greyhound Bus Station is on Gilbert St, about 1km (.6mi) northeast of Fountain Square and Amtrak maintains some train service at Union Terminal, around 2km (1.2mi) northwest of downtown. |

Welcome on TL Anthony
This Panoramic is very nice
Bravo
Thanks for posting this beautiful shot, and welcome to TrekLens. I see lots of guidebook info about the Queen City; nothing about the photograph. We usually try to help others understand how our images were created so that they can learn from our experiences. You might care to add that information, or as much of it as you remember.
You might also want to check out our sister site, TrekEarth. Their focus is learning about the Earth through photography, and your notes would fit in nicely. No reason you can't post on both. ;)
Wow such great information. But you said nothing about WKRP Radio? Sorry is all I had heard about Cincinnati before now...
Great shot. Love the golden looking building there. Very nice work. Gives a magical look to it all...
Thanks. Francis
