From the Gathering of Legends in Ohio. P47 flying through smoke during fake attack run. A little out of focus from shutter speed being too low. I had tried to hand hold a 300mm Nikor lens on Program setting, but shutter speed dropped to 250. It could have been sharper if I had bumped the shutter in shutter priority to 500 or greater.

Hi Norman,
Think you made a very nice picture..
It's a pity you couldn't get it a little bit sharper. But for the rest: welll done friend.
Ruut

colours and sharpness are very great
and the sky is stunning

Looks pretty impressive to me Norman, the brooding sky really adds to the overall quality of the image.

Timeless shot.

Peter

Hi,
Very nice capture! Personly I think that blured is very welcome it gives some energy to the shot. Very nice colors and composition, Well done.

Steph.

Yeah, a shame about the motion blur because it's a spectacular capture - great light and action caught here, well composed too.
Still worth a big green smile!

TFS regards Helen

Hi Norman,
I think its a great shot, you can really see the movement of the plane and I love the color of the plane against the cloudy background. TFS

Hello Skip,
I knew this one was a winner . . . for me, the black smoke makes this shot, as well as the propeller (looks like two sets).
Question for you . . . if the shutter speed had been faster, what would the prop have looked like?
Great job,
Karen

Hi Norman,

Despite the note on which I agree, a very very cool shot! I know what you're talking about, experimenting with my 80-400VR... Hurray for shutter priority and tripod ;-). Could be a cover of one of those boy's books in the 60's.
Looking at the workshop, I do think the USM makes it a bit more sharp. But well, any pp sharpening starts with a sharp original. But you know that hahaha :-).

Thanks for sharing. Nice one!!

Greetings, Dennis

Hi Norman,
Almost missed this superb picture. Excellent action although it's not in full focus, but the slight blur makes it even give some feeling of speed. The bright colours are really appealing for this motin shot. Job well done my friend. Looking at this photo makes my aviation heart beats faster :-)

:) Later...

Cooooool shot Norman!

I love it, I agree it could be sharper , but in a way , it gives more life and movement to scene as well. Our colleague Hans ( Green Baron ) will surely appreciate this one as much as me.... , and maybe even more(^_^).

Cheers!
Robert

Such a shame about the camera shake here Norman.
The contrast, framing, colour, shutter speed, panning etc are all very good, but you yourself admit to what went wrong.
Maybe the dramatic, surreal effect would have been lost with a higher shutter speed, and it would have guranteed to have stopped the action, effectively freezing the prop motion.

I know exactly how it is. Spur of the moment, out of the corner of your eye you see it, and before you know it, you've brought the camera straight to the eys and fired before composing. I do it all to often.

I think you've managed to get away with it though. it does indeed add action and a realistic, almost as if you "Were There" feeling.

cheers,

martin
