the 634 foot ship M/V American Republic transiting the narrow and windey Cuyahoga River in cleveland ohio. This ship was built just for this river, because of that this makes the shuip the most meneuverable ship on the great lakes, with a bow and stern thruster, 2 propellers and 8 rudders, just to make it up this long winding river that starts at lake erie and ends up at a steel mill further up the river.
"Each propeller has two sets of rudders. Two are found in the normal position behind the Kort Nozzle. The other two rudders are flanking rudders placed in front of the nozzle. The rudders are controlled by a sophisticated system that controls which rudders are used depending on the pitch of the propellers and position for the wheel."
The name of the ship "American Republic" is for a specific reason, American, stands for the company that owns the ship, American Steamship Company, and republic is the company that used to own the steel mills up the cuyahoga river, "Republic Steel. This ship was built also with the pilot house as far back as possible, and nothing blocks the view from teh pilot house so the captains wont have trouble seeing the corners when going up the river.

Hi Sam
Incredible pic, well seen with a good crisp image. Good notes they help us understand this feat of engineering. TFS.

What a shot, Sam - and what a job, to skipper that boat! If it wasn't for your note I'd have thought this was a cut-and-paste, because it looks impossible.
Great work.

Well Sam , you choose the perfect spot to illustrate your note! Very nice note and photo combination. Well done.
A gorgeous day to take the Cleveland skyline too!
Bravo!
Robert
