| The M/V American Republic sits here loading taconite pellets in Cleveland, Ohio for the Mittal Steel Plant 3 hours up the cuyahoga river, some of the crew watch people come and go from the ship, and prepare to help with the supply van, There are 2 deckhands, one watchman, the steward and the chief engineer standing there. A little about this ship, it was built only for this cuyahoga river, so it could navigate with ease, the pilot house has 2 parts, the front which looks down the dock, and the back part overlooking the stern, as seen here, it has a clear view with a stearing pole, controls and the the other navigational stuf needed, so this ship can back up just as easily as moving forward, it has 8 ridders, 2 propellers, bow and stern thrusters. each prop has 4 rudders to it, 2 in front and 2 behind, the 2 behind are for moving forward, like all ships, and the 2 in front are for backing up, and they are all situated as far back on the stern as they can possibly go, for futher control, this ship is very meneverable, and amazing to watch. Also, the sides of the aft superstructure get thinner as it gets higher, the captain can look down the side of the ship and nothing gets in his way, also why the stacks are pressed against the pilot house. Enjoy, ~Sam |
