[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The locks of northeast Wisconsin were once a major link to an inland transportation network connecting the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River. Although the system has long lain dormant, efforts are afoot to bring it back for recreation and tourism. Meanwhile, it still waters provide a lovely setting for the symmetries of autumn.

For those curious, the technical steps to get this result included:

1. USM in The Gimp
2. Cropping to desired part of image.
3. Running Drop Shadow and Mat plug-ins in separate layers, then flattening the image after positioning as desired.
4. Sizing to TL requirements and running USM again.
5. Creating text layer, with green sampled from the trees in the image.
6. Creating duplicate text layer, positioning for shadow effect, merging down the two text layes into one, then moving into final image.
7. Saving final composition as .jpg to meet TL's size requirements.
8. Keeping a copy of the .xcf (The Gimp's native format) file so further adjustments are possible if desired.

More PP than I'd normally do, but it was fun and a way to try some new techniques -- and maybe another nuance to the theme.

Hello Jim,

The colours of this are so beautifully autumnal!

I like how you have used the tree on the left as a natural frame around which we can see the rest of the shot!
The composition and framing is spot on!
I really like it!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Good morning Jim

A delightful capture here, wonderful colours, a very pretty POV and nice glassy waters. I like the way the trees on the left form a natural frame and your choice of the red drop shadow enhances the shot well. Good notes explaining your technique too

TFS kind regards Helen
