[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
With apologies to Laura Ingalls Wilder, this scene takes me back to that pioneer series many of us read as children. Wilder spent some time in Wisconsin, and some of her books are set here. With the snow-frosted evergreens and the wood shed full, this image could as easily have been witnessed a 100 years ago rather than yesterday. This particular cabin happens to be on the grounds of our local nature center, and it's a cozy place to come in from the cold for the many children who visit as part of their schools' environmental education curricula.

I'm working on my winter shooting skills as my latest endeavor. I didn't tinker with the exposure compensation for this particular shot, but I did a manual white balance against the snow.

Hi Jim.

Sometimes 'less is more' and this is, for me, one of those moments. What you haven't shown is almost more important that what you have shown. I am not familiar with the literature you mention but this looks like a modern day Hansel and Gretel cottage and somewhere safe in a harsh environment. The reduced colour pallette of winter infers cold and certainly strengthens ths image. Very nice shot. Best wishes for 2008. Paul.

Hi Jim,
I imagine easily Laura Ingalls in this wild environment! Excellent exposure and natural winter colors. I like much your POV with the brances and fence in foreground. You rendered so well the ambiance of these pioneer series! Bravo! Annie
