Trying out a new lens, the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. Got it for $99. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. However, it's manual-focus-only on my D40.

Meh, manual focus "only"??? Manual focus is great! Congrats on the new lens. I love the simplicity, brightness, and shallow depth of field in this shot. Beautiful subtle tones all around with that dark lens just popping out. Strong composition, although I would make sure the lens is not too inside the middle level of the photo (maybe cropping a tiny sliver off the top edge would help to fix this). Wonderful control, the smooth texture and rich tonalities on that lens are just stunning. Beautiful natural lighting used from the side. Very unique, TFS!
