This is the view from the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza and it was a glorious night for viewing the city. This picture is a fluke, of course and here is why.

The wind was blowing about 20mph, and those buildings sway. Even IF the wind wasn't blowing, one tiny movement on my end translates into 10-15 feet at the end of the horizon line. I placed my camera on a pillar there on the building, but wasn't sure I could get a shot with all the wind.

I shot about 30 shots, only 2 came out like this! The other was of the Empire State Building. Hope you like it!

Great view Linda. I know the conditions are rough up there!
You still did a great job of placement of the GW bridge.
I have this exact same shot of the Upper West Side of Manhattan but just before sunset. You have go me thinking about posting it too!

Love the lights that stream up from below.
Nice one.

hi linda, neat shot, good composition and cool night colors, must have been amazing to see,
how as the flight anyways?
tfs,
scott

Lovely "vista" type shot...very interesting perspective and to get so many lights in the frame, perhaps the conditions acted as a filter...it interests me !! nice one...

Hi LInda
I find this night shot absolutely fantastic, the reflection of the lights from the bridge, and the street lights on the building, all perfect.
Dot

It could be that the climate helped to give this photo that color with a mist of mystery. It is impressive to see so many lights in only few blocks. So many details, also. I like the bridge and the reflections of the lights of it in the water. Thanks for sharing with us this beautiful night picture.

Beautiful shot Linda. It is especially difficult to shoot night shots, I am glad that you got at least two out of it. I usually lose patience after shooting five, and then become disappointed, because the only shot remains in my mind.
I love the detail and composition, as well as how the hue adds warmness to this photo.
Dianne

Great Linda, you have done a good job with the light and the wind, that type of shot make the city look so over built, if you know what I mean.

Thanks
Gil

Hi Linda,
Beautiful night picture that you have taken here. Excellent light and composition , well presented and composed picture , very well done.
Michel

Great view here Linda. Your POV is very nice. Good contrast. Just look at all those lights. When I look at a picture like this, I am sort of glad to live in a small town. What if the power went out in this city?
It would be quite horrible.
Thanks for sharing,
Leanne

Hi Linda
Many, many lights! Wow... You have captured the nightlife very well here.. I really like the 3 green/bigger lights...
I'll take my little downtown over this crazy city any day!

Tricia

Hi Linda, I hope you did not scratch your 30D's body; assuming that you had to hardly press the cam into the pillar for sturdiness against the strong wing. :)

I know this is not an easy shot, and you had done it with 2 picks from 30 attempts. Months ago, I did 68 experimental night shots in a night, all were disappointing (bin-wise actually)... :D

Regards,
Ramdan.

Wonderful capture.
Good sharpness and details.
Wonderful view up there.

Missed this one. A fanatastic nocturnal view of NYC with wonderful sharpness (despite the wind) & good colour & repetition. Have a great weekend!

Hi Linder,
This is a beautiful night shot of NY. It came out wonderful. Nice details and color tones. Plus, its my favorite part of the city. TFS Julie

Hi Linda,

And what a view it is! Placing cameras on pillars at this height always makes me nervous :-)
Nice workshop of Vandana. I prefer the workshop, because of the noise in the sky. But I like the wide composition with the bridge.
Thanks for sharing!

Greetings, Dennis
