Appealing shot here Linda! The BW and the rainy urban setting is a great combo. You are spot on with this conversion.
It has a classic look to it, greta POV and clarity.
I really like it.

its the wet season here also :)
i like the choice of b/w here linda
you need a high shutter speed for shooting in the rain cause the rain drops appear as a blur veil at 1/60 :)
you need about 1/250 to freeze the rain drops, this will giv a clear focus photo and the rain can be seen
using flash also helps :)

It's a great shot linda! The B&W seems so much perfect for the shot, as if the time has been frozen. TFS!

Very gritty, big city and dismal!! Not the finest weather for NYC for sure.
Great composition

Hi Linda
I recently read a blog in 2007, by an American tourist, that my hometown, Brisbane (Au), reminded them of New York. The new highrise poking up from the older, European style architecture, the smell of cigarettes / cigars, & sugar coated almonds, were the reasons given. A good black & white shot here, with excellent sharpness & tonal range. Good result for a rainy day, with nice reflections in the wet streets & pavement. Tfs!
why not red ;)

Hi Linda,
A nice composition with interesting perspective, and reflection of light on wet road. Love to see the placement of a couple walking by, with an umbrella... rainy day.
B&W... just perfect. Nice shot, Linda.

Hello,
I think you made the right choice, B&W match much more with street photography.
Nice shot.

Hi Linda,
Beautiful bw composition, good contrast and light.
Best regards,
Ralf
Very good presentation of urban life "stopped in frame" kind of photography.
I think that according to the weather - BW works the best way Linda, so that choice look like very smart and really good.
Thanks - Tom

I love the 'feel' of this picture. I love the rain! The streets look great! Very nice in b&w. TFS
Excellent conversion Linda. Well composed and lovely tones and details regardless of the weather. I wouldn't mind seeing a few days of that funny wet stuff down here. TFS,
David

Yes, B&W was a good choice.
It is not an extra-ordinary street picture, but not a bad one either.
Congrats for the choice of wide angle lens. It makes that you have to get close to your subject. 1/60 is a wee bit slow, for street my experience is that 1/125 is really a minimum to avoid motion blur (unless that is what you are after ofcourse), especially when I notice that the 30D was set at 100 ISO. At 400 ISO you can set to F/8 or F/11 and 1/125sec and prefocus if you want.
In postprocessing I could give the advice to dodge the subjects a little to make them lighter and stand out from the background.
Keep up the good work: street photography is very difficult but can be very rewarding.

i would say its more effective on BW so the choice is right. it emphasizes the mood of the rainy day.
