Ok, now I'm really gonna walk out on this limb here with this shot. I've thought to delete this photo 100 times...each time I would come back to it, scratch my head and think "I can't"...... it's haunting to me. And gawd knows us 40-something women are moody! HAHA!

So here is what I did. I took this BIG file and sent it to my friend David, Refugee , and he played with it and so did I. I did my pp work, he did his and so when I saw his, it was totally different than mine, which goes to show you everyone sees things differently! When I get to work I will post his in WS.

So with this shot I removed a car to the right, I did layers, killing alot of the other colors other than the sign and the umbrella. I also added vignetting and a bloom where the umbrella was.

The lady is in motion. She stopped, moved, than stopped again as you can see, so there are TWO of her in the shot. I may have had my camera sitting on something, or against a wall, can't remember. It was raining etc. But this is what I had hoped to acheive in NYC while I was there.

So anyways, I don't care if I get frownies, I like this alot..planning on getting it framed. I used to be a painter, so impressionistic work is fascinating to me.
I even asked my friend Silke about and she said, "Well some folks will like it!, some won't" HAHA!

So here is my neck, please make it a clean chop! HA!
B-)

Actually I really like this photo. Im glad you took a chance on it! You know, your work is your work, whether it be your best or your worst or if people like it or hate it. If you love it, isn't that all that matters? Irregardless, this is a cool shot! :) It is haunting indeed. Thanks for sharing!

I love these kinds of shots Linda, that capture an essence of a place but you are unsure if it works.
I go through that too with many shots.
This one does capture the vibe of NYC really well!
Love the dramatic slight tilt,
and motion blur. I think it's great.
Thanks for taking a chance!

i like this, Linda.. i've seen something like this before but i can't remember where.. probably from cd album cover, magazine or website.. nevermind.. love it.. excellent pp work.. well done.

regards, terry

Hi Linda,

As a man who normally likes detail clear and sharp I find myself liking this image. I conjures up a nice atmosphere giving an almost hand tinted effect.

NOw I do really like the moodiness of this one, Linda
The composition works well, of course.
It's fun to experiment just a little to see how folks react.
I got some strong feedback on my little experiment and reposted it -- can't please everyone all the time
Cheers

Once again I admire your creativity. This really creates a mood, the hustle and bustle! I think it's great!!! TFS

Hi Linda,

Thats a great experiment..
Good works, and fine presentation.
All the best.

The ONLY thing that bothers me is the blurred writing, BUT, like you, I like this shot too. I have had shots that I went back and forth between deleting and keeping, only to post them and at least get a couple of points in agreement, so that makes it worth it when someone else agrees with you!
Tracy

it would have been a mistake to delete this photo.
I don't know what it is about it but I love it.
Maybe the moody colors or the movements.
Don't rightly know but I find it excellent.

Hi Calamity,
Excelent artistic impression, superb title and intrigue picture. Not a "average Shelbeesmom image", the more interesting!
Great posting my dear Linda!

Hi Linda
I am happy this did not make it to the trash bin.
I really like it.. its different but with a NY mood! I love the color of the umbrella! Your pp work has made it look like a piece of art! Congrats.. no frownies here :)

Tricia

Hi Linda
I'll jump on your experiment. I think if you had used a 1 second shutter speed I would ignored this posting. However the 2 second shutter has put the image enough out of focus to make it interesting and very pleasing to my eye. We were in NY this past fall and saw Color Purple. I photographed the theatre at night and have nice sharp images, but yours is off the wall and really interesting. TFS

I think in the end Linda the PP work assisted the wet look. Nice desaturated look and still quite clear detail. I must need new specs that sign is quite clear to me :). TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Geographe Bay Sunset’... and I reckon there are heaps there you haven't seen :)

One of my favorite movies is BladeRunner with Harrison Ford. What I like so much about it is the very dark and somber mood that is created by the cinematographer and the locations used.
Tokyo is also one of my favorite cities and Tokyo in the rain IS BladeRunner to me. The dark, yet with light and very claustrophobic feeling is very overpowering to me.
Well you, for me anyway, captured that emotion here in your NYC shot.
I like it a lot--it brings out emotions and feelings, which other that pleasing the eye and senses is a great thing for a photo to be able to do.
Your neck is safe with me. ;0)
Thanks much for sharing,
Wilt

Wow! I love this shot! It feels like a painting and the mood is so dark and city-like. Years ago I toured out of NYC and this reminds me of one morning when it was gray and chilly.

Nice work Linda. You have a very creative eye, and you have NOTHING to apologize about expressing your individuality.

Richard
