When Shelby and I ventured to New York City, we had the opportunity to visit the little church across from Ground Zero. There was no plan to sing there. But the kids walked into the most somber place, people were whispering.

Around the church were little "alters" of lights, momentos of those who died during that tragic day, badges, patches of firefighter, empty fireman suits...not a "religious" feeling in the place...but a "spiritual feeling".

The choir director got the kids together and they started singing. Well after the first song there wasn't a dry eye in the place. The last song started, "Amazing Grace", strong...and quickly faded to silence, the kids were overwhelmed. I tilted this photo on purpose, converted to BW. This is one of my favorites of the trip.
***AS an aside, the choir teacher had me do an 11 x 14 of this shot in color.
Have a great Sunday! I am in Austin today!
Linda

Hi Linda

A superb b&w image, with good mood and shadow detail. Excellent sharpness & tonal range. I like the motion blur of the conductor's hands. Tfs!

Hi Linda,

Just the mention of "ground zero" gives me goosebumps over and over. The photo is absolutely stunning. I love the perspective and the blur of the choral directors hands. I think the black and white adds to the mood of the entire tragedy of events. It would be interesting to see the color version. Did he choose color over black and white? Just curious because the black and white is so very dramatic!

Hello Linda:)
Photo along with your note is just stunning and you are right, I'm looking and wondering how was there, I'm wondering this singing - I HAVE spiritual feeling - thank you so much to bring this work to our attention:)
911... I was in PA then, driving my truck and listening to the radio - station whatever was... they called breaking news, then I step on brakes, other driver honk on me and gave bad words on CB - few minutes later I pullover to rest area to switch my TV on. That driver never gave up - he came after me calling me idiot etc - I've set: I'm sorry but calm down and watch what happened... he told me later - oh man now I'm not surprise why you slow down like that but I almost hit you over there, since then we are good friends:)
Best greetings - Tom
P.S.
I was born in Kielce - Poland and I'm proud that in my home town they build monument in memory of 9/11 victims as well as other terrible events done by terrorists.
