Get your apples and oranges out. I am posting photos that stretch me out of the box this week. You may not like them, but I love them. So at the risk of getting boo'd off the stage, I post them. Please be honest, you won't hurt my feelings!

This photo has been reworked over 10 times. I just could not delete it. There was something about it that I just loved. It really spoke to me of the mood I was in at this place. It was very difficult to get a shot here as the winds were very high, throwing mist all over Silke and I. There is a sadness here that I felt, I'm not sure where the feeling came from. A loneliness that just never went away. Maybe that so many come to see it, but few stay.

What I did with this is walk a fine line. There was alot of noise, but the lights were sharp. So what I did was add MORE noise. If you can't beat em, join em! I slowly found a level that suited the mood. Then I isolated the lights and added noise etc. I attempted as best I could to "balance" the photo. I had Shelby check it, and a few others. So this is my posting.
Have a great day!
Linda

I'll be honest - my jury's out on this one!! I can see the effect you're going for Linda but I think the overall 'darkness' of the picture is a little too much..
I have to say I do like that red glow that seems to eminate from the water itself.. I think the effect is also a bit like the old effect of smearing vaseline on the lens to give that misty look...
Anyway - keep posting, even if you think you'll be booed off LOL, at least you're having a go which is what it's all about..
Cheers
David

Wishing you ALL the better than this. haha

The mist and the water look like brush strokes Linda.
The minimal warm light adds a great atmosphere here as well.
It's unique and different and not what one would expect,
but I think it's a successful experiment.
Nicely done.

Hi Linda, I thank you for posting this. I have an incredible library of the same shots. Like you, I keep going back to them, but can't bring myself to delete them. Maybe it it the memories, maybe just stubborness. Now, along with following your notes, I think they can be salvaged. Back to your photo: it portrays drama like that from an old novel. Gives me an idea, that this would be really neat possibly in sepia, with hand sketched outlines if you understand what I picture in my mind (very few can). Great experiment, and good imagination. TFS
Cheers!

Hi Linda,on my first look, I thought this image was far too noisy & so different from your usual postings,so that made me take another look,& I changed my mind, this is a mood image, one that affected you,& may or may not affect others in the same way but you have portrayed what you saw & felt when viewing Niagara falls on that special occassion.I did a WS to compare it with a different composition & a little less noise

Ron

Hi Linda
I really like what you've done here. Yes it's very dark, but that's the point - it is dark at night..!
Ever thopught about adding some texture too to make it look like an old oil painting?

hi linda.

experimenting is the best way to discover new effects. it brings out the creativity in us all.

this is a very moody, minimalistic piece of art. imho.

it means that we must use our imagination to fully understand what we are seeing. too many photogs on this site look, but don't see.

personally, i love it.

Bravo! Bravo!
Brian

Hi Linda,

To be honest, this isn't one of my favorites of Niagra Falls. I'm not sure if it is the lit buildings that is throwing me off, or what. I like the misty feel of the photo, but wish it was a little lighter. I'm nearsighted... what can I say? "Let there be (more) light". :D Interesting concept with the reds. NO "Boos" from me!! LIsa

Hi Linda:)
You'll have green smile from me because:
I think I know what is it... and I think that feeling is reserved only for these who witness this magic place in person, so memories and photo combine it makes that effect. When I was about 12 years old, my friend's father bring back from Niagara 3D slide viewer - that was awesome to watch and I never even dream that years later falls will be the first think I'll see in North America - all that story makes me to love this mood on your picture - you made my memories alive again.
To be honest... yes - technically it is crap but with something unique in it!!! - and sometimes that is more worth it than picture perfect, like from National Geographic.
I know Niagra very well, first I was resident there, just 2 miles from falls and since we moved out we go there sometimes - I never post it any picks of it due to over popularity to this particular place.
Cheers - Tom

Well, Linda, I'm very glad to see you posting such an experiment. It's a good way to use TL for reactions and feedback, and of course that gives you more to work with in the future:) Anyway, I happen to like this for its unique impression of the falls. The noise adds to the atmospheric quality near the falls and could be simply blamed on the mist! I used to live in Buffalo and have seen Niagara in its stereotypical natural versions and in its stagey lightshow versions...and must say that this interpretation is original and dramatic. The only drawback I might mention is that the thumbnail doesn't necessarily invite a closer look, more's the pity!

hi linda, who cares if technically its no so hot! TL is for sharing images and ideas and getting feedback, we are all different and each artist will produce different works of art and we should be open to learn from each other no matter how good or bad. two thumbs up i like the way you think!

scott

I like the mood. I feel loneliness & sadness either.
Nice shot Linda.

Ciao Linda, seems to me like an old oil painting, fantastic exposure for a fascinating composition, very well done, brava, ciao Silvio

I could almost say, "Hello neighbor", as we're posting similar shots, only that they're one day apart. I had no idea, Linda, and I hope you won't think of it as plagiarism!
This really feels weird! The tones are the same, the mood created, even the choice of frame! I am almost freaking out here...:)
Take care,
Diana
