[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo at a church BBQ from some distance using a fully extended 12X zoom. Camera was hand-held and both exposure and focus were set on auto. I used a faded fresco filter to add a bit of age to the photograph and some highligh/shadow adjustments in Photoshop. I love the photos of Dorothea Lange.

I like to take, along with nature shots, candid photos of people I see. Of course, doing so, unobtrusively, requires the shots taken at a distance and sometimes poses a problem with sharpness especially for a old guy like me. But then again, excellent technical quality and absolute crispness isn't the only think that makes for a good photograph... capturing a mood or a moment in time can, if well done, excuse absolute photo quality. Perhaps the old argument of which one... Weston or Adams? How about both? :)

Anyway, I have tried to become more sensitive to all I see around me... and in actuality, I think photography over the years, along with teaching, and my faith has helped. Capturing expressions, moods, and the character in a person's face are of interest to me.

I leave it to you the viewer to interpret the mood of the photograph and am anxious to read your thoughts.

Hi Larry,
excellent photo. Very sugestive look, sorrow and thoughtfulness. All of this is in the picture.
Regards - Slawek

What is interesting - the contrast between wall and woman. I agree that candid photos have something special. On the other hand - it's possible to make cadid photos while being very close to a person.

The distortions of her face seem to come from digital zoom...? They make me thinking about what was the reason of them :-)
