[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of two twin stacks on top of the H.J. Heinz Company Plant in Pittsburgh. The cloud is steam rather than smoke; as many of you know, Heinz is a brand associated with ketchup, mustard, pickles and other condiments and sauces, as well as baby food, and steam is constantly flowing from the roof of the plant as a result of the cooking processes.

Why "57?" The company's website says: "While riding a train in New York City in 1896, Henry Heinz saw a sign advertising 21 styles of shoes, which he thought was clever. Although Heinz was manufacturing more than 60 products at the time, Henry thought 57 was a lucky number. So, he began using the slogan "57 Varieties" in all his advertising. Today the company has more than 5,700 products around the globe, but still uses the magic number of '57.'"

While traveling in Europe and the Middle East, I found Heinz Ketchup in many, many countries on the tables in restaurants and in the stores. It always gave me an little sense of pride to see that a small piece of Pittsburgh had made it to somewhere so far away.

I was experimenting a my new circular polarizing filter in the bright morning sun. I thought about posting this in black & white but I liked the colors of the bricks; however, a b&w version can be seen in the workshop.

Hi Sandy..nice dramatic shot...perfect details and tones..nice job.

Roger

Nice composition with the diagonal line created by the steam against the straight line of the stack. The light is also very nice on the bricks of the stack. You are going to really l.ike the circular polarizer. Great note as well.

Boa noite Sandy
Excellent composition, unique and very well seen. You create a nice way to give a special look to this architecture.Great.

Bonjour Sandy.
Urs

dear Sandy,
an impressive contrast between the solid and standing figure of this brick stack, and the billowing and formless figure of the steam,
it is artistic.
and the secret of 57 is suggested on both objects interestingly.
thank you for your wonderful shot,
Akihisa
