Damn! Anyone know why the saturation on my photos goes to sh** when I "Save for web?"

This looked beautiful before I saved it for web. I have this problem all the time. I usually have to reopen the smaller photo and bump up saturation +15-20 to get it to look right again.

I've got nothing good to post these days so here is another photo from my trip to Puerto Rico.

This was on the Island of Vieques. There is an old pier that has good snorkling under. All that is left of the pier are the concrete columns. I walked to the end of it very cautiously (since it gets deep by the end.)

I will post a photo as a *** WORKSHOP *** to show my walk across these narrow beams.

I think maybe I should have cropped out the top bar.

Suggestions welcome.

JP

Hi JP

Good use of diminishing linear perspective, & vanishing point. I like the graphism of the pier & pylons, against the lighter sky. Well done!

Nice shot JP. I like your perspective in this one. Nice reflections and great water color. Excellent POV.
Bravo!

Perfect work. I lover rhytm, perspective, colours. Excellent idea of shooting from a place where natural gap shows the sky and the pier's bar on the upper photo's edge forms natural frame. Do not crop it out! :-) congrats!

Hi JP,

Beautiful!!!Nice perspective, reflections and the colors are soft and clean.

I don't no why your shots go to Sh*** hehehe
I resize and save with the normal mode, and don't have problems.;)
Obrigado
Fernando

u are not happy with the blue sky? The contrast is there but as you mentioned, the saturation could be a tad higher...not sure about that...did you try a save as instead? There's an option about ICC profile I think. Or perhaps you need to calibrate ur screen? Sorry can't help much in that JP.

However, what I can do say is a great perspective indeed. Your workshop photo is *glurp* scarry! What if....well, nvm...

It's a great shot by itself! Well done!

nice shot with good depth and POV JP :)

i do think the sky could be a little more saturated...could be due to "save for web" option...
i stop using save for web cause it tends to drop too much details, now i just set the quality to 8 before saving and after resizing
i also try to save the PP version just once, after all the adjustments were done and using the undo function to back track instead of saving multiple times :)
hope this is useful to you :)

Hi JP, yea Puerto Rico shots always came in handy :)) Nice clear water... You're a daring man JP, seeing the WS... hmmm I wouldn't risk my D70s ... Imagine swimming with it back to shore :)))
cheers
ToM

Hi JP,
great POV of a lovely scenery with nice colours! About your 'save for web' problem, well one of the solution is - don't work with layers. A shot like this doesn't need much work on it as it is already great, so a few adjustments are enough. Then you don't need to use 'save for web' at all.
About your WS photo, hehe brave boy. You survived, and even more important your Nikon survived too :D...kidding.
take care!
M:))

the reason is most likely because either your camera is setup to shoot at Adobe RGB and you don't have a policy setup in your graphic software to convert to sRGB or the color settings for the working profile is set at Adobe RGB and the policy is to convert to the WP.

Adobe RGB is typically for print because of it's wider range of color depth. sRGB is the standard web and monitor color profile, but be aware that when you're editing in Photoshop, you can't tell the difference between color profiles, it's only evident when you view it in another environment (i.e. web browser)

Great composition, POV and DOF, JP. A nice snorkling ad for sure. I am suddenly having the same problem you are with saving for web. I haven't figured it out yet, but I know when I change the mode (RGB, CMY... etc) it does have an effect - If I do find the culprit, I email you. BTW, you do have nerves of steel walking across that plank.

Very interesting perspective looking below this pier with great water colours. I want to go to the beach now!!! Nice composition and the top bar works fine so no need to crop it out. Well done!

Sorry, I have run out of goodies!

Impressive point of view.
The crystal water really matches with the old concrete stuff.Seems to be out of time...

Hey JP!
Great shot. Your perspective is awesome, love the water and the wooden pier thingy.
Maybe if you cropped the top one, it would have been even better. Still a good shot though! I like it =)

I like the perspective in this one. I think cropping out the top bar would help - this would also shift the horizon up a bit, so it wouldn't cut through the centre of the photo, and the focal point would fit the rule of thirds better. Nice photo.

Hi JP, excellent shot. the perspective under the pier is fantastic an dvery long.
great colors and light.
thanks, ciao

I never save for web, so I don't really know whether there is a benefit of doing so or not.

the water is very clean, and i like the overall look of it, i wish you had uploaded the workshop photo, because the colours in it, are ever so vibrant and beautiful.

I do not know why ths photo attracted me. Maybe it is because of the perspective, the massive column capitals or the beams framing the sky. A good nicely composed and properly exposed photo.

Also, thank you for your visit and comments on my photo, "Last Pastry on Earth".
