CONDITIONS: Awaiting landfall of Hurricane Category 5 Katrina

My Painted Lady Lilies bloomed today. They are always the first to let us know that Fall is near. I wish they had waited just a few more days to pop out of the ground to say hello..... For this time tomorrow night, they will no longer be there.....

I took their portrait, with raindrops already falling, against the backdrop of my bedroom window, already boarded up with the thick plywood boards used in this area to protect our homes against the onslaught of high winds.

The hurricane is predicted to hit New Orleans, LA and that is about 200 miles from me. I pray for all there. We are predicted to recieve the fury of Katrina as a catagory 1 or 2.

Somehow the beauty of these lilies provided by Mother Nature against the background of fear against the fury of Mother Nature makes an interesting contrast.

SandPiper checking out until this terrible storm is over and ask for your prayers for those of us in her path.........

Hope to see you again soon.... :O)

A very beautiful lily and the post makes me wonder why nature destroys her own. I know that living things are expendable, but it is a sad thought anytime any form of life is seemingly needlessly destroyed. Perhaps it will go away from you and spare you another onslaught. You remain in our thoughts and prayers and your work will be missed until you return.

Prayers to you once again Kat in yet another time of hurricane ferocity. Stay safe and God bless. Let's all be thankful we aren't in New Orleans. I am praying for family and friends there, not to mention the old family home and cemetery.

My heart is breaking for those who will be impacted by this monster of a storm.

Beautiful lilies, but sad to hear that they may not be there after tomorrow. How sad! I hope that you are not badly affected by this ferocious storm and that you and your family and your house will survive it very well with little damage. Also for those poor people living in the path of the full force 5 in New Orleans, our thoughts and hopes for their safety are very much in mind tonight and tomorrow when we will be watching the newscasts to see how everyone did. Looking forward to your next post, because that will mean you are safe and sound. Hugs Joan

Struggling concept you express with this shot, we hope in a miracle, that beauty can survive...
We'll pray for that.

Marco

Great sentiment / feelings expressed in this image and note Kat. Thoughts and prayers for those at risk from Down-Under.

Pamela just heard on the news they are expected to get 20 feet of water. I am praying for everyone.

Kathleen,

We now know the hurricane is on land, our best to you and the people going thru this.

Hi Kathleen

Good news. Katrina was weakened slightly to a category 4, & is currently just east of NOLA. We get Tropical cyclones in Queensland too, but we haven't had one in the Brisbane area, since TC Violet in 1995. Not sure about the USA, but in Qld, we need tropical storms to fill the dams & recharge groundwater aquifers.

Shame about your beautiful flower, though. Well managed dof & sharpness.

We are hearing on the news about the terrible storm...
We are thinking about you guys and the safe return

Hi, Kat. Hope everything is ok down your way. They're organizing volunteers from all over the country here in Little Rock.

I love the fact that you thought about these newborn flowers not being able to live out their full potential. That touches me also. I think about stuff like that, and then feel silly. :) I'm glad you're a softy too.

You're in my prayers. Take care.
Gayle

I hope everything is ok for you!! The lilies are lovely, I really like the water drops on them. It's sad to know they have probably been destroyed. Hope to see you back safe and sound soon!!
Michelle

I'm glad you've captured these before the hurricane, and I'm glad you're okay, though I'm sure stressed and changed forever. I've been watching the news coverage not realizing you lived so close to what's happening. This photo is inspiring of the beauty lost, but still able to be reclaimed in time. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your neighbors.

Hi Kat,
A very poignant post . . . I'm glad all turned out well for you. I will see your city next month while attending a convention.

The only thing I would change is the color of the mat; I think a pale pink to highlight the gentle hues of the blossom rather than the color of the boarded window. After all, at the time of the shot the blossom is still in its glory.

All teh best,

bonsoir

tres joli cliché en macro
