I was in a place where I had no contol over the outcome of my fate. I even cried because I had done all I could do, yet was still at the mercy of the Unknown.
Boarded up in a home with no electricity, darkness surrounded me much like being in a tomb.... Screams of the wind and sounds that I hope to never hear again assaulted my ears and my senses. This was reported to be the worst assault to attack the shores of my home.
To find peace, I lit my favorite oil lamp...a little pottery jar I think I have had forever. I placed it in front of my mirror in the darkness and with my flashlight went and got my camera.
I refuse to stop trying to make things in my life better. So, with an oil lamp, a mirror, a tripod, my camera and total darkness I found peace and solitude while the fury played itself outside my front door......

I hope you came out well, Kathleen.
It's an intriguing photo you present here.
You call it a simple frame, but as it fits perfectly with the picture, there is nothing simple about it.
Keep hope and most things will be overcome.
Groet,
Joop.

The perfect photo to show that no matter how bad things are, there is still the Light. I am most relieved that you made it through this disaster.

Very nice picture. I find it very impressive it gives me a special feeling.

Very nice comp.and a little light from eyes.

reading your note is pure cruelity i feel. best wishes from here.

Thank goodness hurricane Katrina has settled down a bit, and that you are okay. It must have been awful without any electricity. Your oil lamp reminds me of a church song "Give Me Oil In My Lamp, Keep Me Burning". Your photo is lovely and serene and sends the message of solitude well. Between the candle and it's reflection in the mirror, it looks like your hand.

First of all, So glad that you are okay and did not receive any injuries or serious damage. There is something soothing and at the same time exciting about the light from a flame. This is a beatuiful example of solitude of the moment. I love the soft display and the story that it relates. Hopefully there will not be a repeat of this terrible storm soon!

Beautiful mood you achieved here, Kathleen.

Nice framing too. I like the ambiance you did with the two candles.

Very well done and with love and hope for this disaster.

Take care, Yan

Kathleen you have been and will continue in my thoughts and prayers. B

Hi Kathleen

I'm glad you survived. Over 1/3 of Brisbane, where I live, was submerged in the 1974 floods, following Cyclone Wanda. I believe it is the people that make up a city, rather than the mere bricks & mortar, which can always be replaced. Natural disasters simulataneously bring out both the best, & worst in people. eg Total strangers in another town opened their doors to stranded travellers unable to get back into Brisbane for a week, & profiteering /looting also took place. But the good, outweighs the bad, imho & experience.

It will take months to get your region back to normal, but it will happen.

At first i receive a contradiction! Why solitude if they are two candles! About the one who look the candles of course! Wonderfull! The flames are clear! Big and clear! THe atmosphere around is just perfect!

Hi Kat,
Good to see you made it out of the storm. Katrina was a butt-kicker! I'm glad you found something to keep yourself distracted while that hurricane was moving by.
Take care!
Richard

Hey little Sandpiper - keep on laughing, or at least try to. You're lucky to have such an interest in photography, Kat. It's a good way to distract you in times when you're in the midst of chaos.
Good idea to use a mirror here, it's a great flame shot. I just think your logo is a bit distracting over the lamp.
TFS. Take care.

Hi Kathleen!
