I suspected she was having problems....
Blurry images, slow responses....
Symptoms I was very familiar with from my last one....

All of you who have suddenly lost your beloved cameras to malfunction and ultimate death can understand why I posted this photo....

I was shooting some test images with my Olympus E-10. We know our cameras. I heard the labored sounds trying to adjust and focus. Just as she captured this final image, I grimaced as I heard that sound that told me this would be be her final image.

The photo is not clear and sharp, I did very little PP work in honor of her last picture. You will understand. She served me well in her line of duty with many postings here. May she now rest in peace.....

Final note:
The cost of repair is very expensive. Unfortunately, too much for such a noble camera. I am left with what I consider "point-and-shoot" and without the constant companion "of my best friend".....but I will survive......:O)

"Gone but not Forgotten" So reads the tombstones of many mighty men! The beauty about electronics is that when they are gone, there are newer and better things that are even better configured at even less money. Just hang in there and I am sure that something will happen to put you back among the active at TL.

Hi Kat,
Hooo! When my camera went out...I sure wasn't as nice to it as you are! ;P Not bad for a last shot. But, I can see why you it was going out the door. A "point and shoot" doesn't have to mean a bad camera. There are plenty of good ones out there. Here's a good review site that even has pics for you to look at: www.steves-digicams.com
Take care.
Richard

Oh Kat.. I felt quite sad reading your story..lol...A nice tribute to your old camera... great stuff...

Im sure you will be pleased with whatever you purchase.. only problem there is so much to choose from !...

Thanks for sharing..
Kind Regards Dawn.

Ho yes you will survive! I understand you so well? Very soon in my case... Is there a malediction over us these time.. Have the feeling to heard many problems with camera theses time.

In my case it's never like others.
My first Olympus 1.4 megapix was dying after 3 years. I push the button she simply don't work anymore. Anyway, after 3 years. 1.4 megapix was considerated ordinary. So i buy mu Fujifilm. After a time, there was a fire here. Not in my appart. Another. But the smoke did dammage. So a had insurrance... Everything was cleaned, ionised etc.. etc... I never let to garbage that camera... Sentimental value. It was my first. ANd i love the Chlack chlack sound of the prism inside. A real reflex! So when i receive the camera... By curiosity a put the card and battery inside like before.. Miracle! She work perfectly find!! Like before.. I was so happy even if she is very behind now...

About my second one.. She is not broke... But you see what she do? I don't know... Nothings happen in a natural way with me... :o)
Now it's bad but you will have a good feeling about your new one... For me it was enough to balance the effect i suppose when i will receive the first account. Grrr.. :o(
But for the rest... It's just if i don't sleep with it :o)

Hi Kat, Sorry to hear about your equipment which served you so well for a long time. It will be interesting to know what your new choice will be and why when you get a new one. The choices today are many

Poor Oly, unable to click anymore. I'm sure you will enjoy your new camera and be out there shooting your wonderful beach scenes again. Perhaps you will grace us with your new camera's debut shot. I like how you chose yourself for the final image. That was so thoughtful. You look good Kat.

Hi Kathleen

RIP. I still miss my 300 mm zoom lens, which went to camera heaven, several years ago. But it is the photographer who visualizes the fantastic images, not the camera. ie, You!

Sorry here about Oly 10. I could never part with my faithful Ricoh KR-10super its just celebrated 21 years. It has been rushed into the ER a couple times it's currently resting up for a valve replacement(shutter) operation.

It's not been a good month for you, hope things improve shortly
Gideon

Hi Kat, how sorry I am to hear your camera could no longer assist you with your great images. It takes a while with every camera to become friends, the right translation of what you see and want to be captured. I'm sure it will find a place with high honor in your "Digitial Darkroom" among your other precious things. Think of all the things you both have seen. A very nice last "Oly" photo indeed, I can see you are good friends, and see how greatefull you are for all the good work and being you best friend, indeed worth a tribute!
See you again Kat, Richard

Sorry for your loss, Kat... may he rest in peace. Hey, P&S isn't that bad - my Oly is exactly that! A good photographer should be able to work with any available camera - though I admit that P&S camera's have their limitations. Anyway; take care and start browsing the web for a replacement ;o).

Do I recall right that this was your second E-10 already ?

It's a shame to hear about your camera kat it served you well. As for a new one I know they are very expensive but well worth the price, Ebay may be a good place to look for new and used equipment. Good luck!

U SCARED ME KATHLEEN... I THOUGHT IT WAS UR FRIEND TOO...! :( :) But, Glad it was not... I am very possesive about my camera too... Hope U will find one soon... As for this picture... I enjoy the childhood mood depicted... good one she has shot... Thanks for sharing :)

Take care...
- Hima.

Kathleen,

What can one say about the loss of such a dear and "noble" friend. A camera becomes a part of us in so many ways. Not just a piece of equipment, but an extension of ourselves. I'm sure we all have our stories!!

The last one with the camera.... your famous tool you used for this site which did a lot of work.... My car, he (maybe it's a she:-)) brought us home safely from our holiday 1000 km. away and then died when we came home....
But please know, your camera, my car, they did good work for us and they don't live for ages, like us.....

I hope that you are okay?!
TL members can not forget you!!!!

Oh dear, Farwell to the old camera.

Does anyone find this to be spooky?

Lance

OH, Oly! Such loss is difficult enough, but when it is an Oly...sigh. I wish I'd known sooner. I would have sent a card. *Sniffle*

Hi Kathleen
A touching notes for the one you loved. Like the story you wrote about her.
Cheers
