I have been chasing elusive butterflies with my camera for more years than I want to admit, with little success. The beautiful little creatures just won't stay still for me....until.....

I don't know where this beautiful flying flower with brightly colored gossamer wings came from, but I am so thrilled that he visted me for a while.

I was in my sunroom and noticed him sipping from the flowers, lazily drifting back and forth from one flower bed to another.

I slowly walked out to the flowers, knowing he would be gone as soon as he saw me. To my surprise, (and I promise this is true) he settled on a flower and posed for me. Of course I was snapping away, knowing he would suddenly fly off....but no, this was a special butterfly. He turned upside down on the flowers, he faced me, he spread his wings, he even fluttered in the air in front of my camera lens....it was amazing.

I am going to post a few more photos of this butterfly, sort of a "series" I guess.... simply because I think you will enjoy the different poses. I know I certainly have.

3. Removed noise
4. Sharpened
5. Resized
6. Applied simply frame and logo.

Is it my active imagination, or is the white spot incased in a black circle on the top wing at the very bottom, right, in the shape of a heart??? I like to think that it is.....

Thanks to all who stop by and view my photos and read my thoughts. I cherish each word that is written to me. I print and have each photo with all your critiques bound into a nice book. Any birthday card, or dedication goes into these books also....it means that much to me....Hugs...:O)Kat

It was I that left the photo session. After I went into the sunroom, I looked back....he flew into the air...fluttered his beatiful wings for a short time and suddenly flew high into the air over the rooftop of my neighbors house. He has not returned..... but I have these wonderful photos of the butterfly I have always wanted.....

Terrific macro shot Kat, such vibrant colours. Nicely composed, and great use of depth of field. Marvellous shot.

I just love your butterfly. How lucky you were to have him pose just for you. He is such a brilliant fellow too, and you have captured him well, clear and sharp and very colourful. Yes, I see several heart shapes on his top wings. Looking forward to your other butterfly pics.

Hi Kathleen

I hope Rita gives you a wide berth! I like the superb, saturated color & excellent sharpness in this wonderful macro shot of the butterfly. Good work!

A beatuiful shot and the colors are outstanding! Yes, butterflies seldom "pose" and it is all a matter of luck and opportunity. I see the hearts in the wing texture. It must mean this little guy emerged with you in mind! Your accompanying stories are always as interesting as your photos. Keep up the good work!

Soooooo beautiful Kathleen :) What great colors, what stuning pose...you really diserved such a gift after all the hard work after this litle guy here :))
Oh, i read your message :)) Thank you! Im glad she loved it, yes is a truly beautiful region..and you know..i was there too these holidays :)) How the world is so small...a big hug to you..and send a kiss to Kathie too :)) Take care.

Great shot and amazing colors. I'm very impressed you were able to catch a butterfly in a shot like this with such clarity. Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

A beautiful capture...or photo session of your 'Butterfly angel". How lucky you are to have her visit you. The colours are crisp and clean as is the composition.
Hope you are doing well,
TFS,
Liz

Back in business, Kat ? With an E10, I mean ;o). I know how difficult these flutterby's can be for having their pictures taken. So I dare say you did an outstanding job here. Though a big part of the credits are for your model too! What a colourful little chap ;o). Excellent macro. TFS.

Sandpiper,

I would never have imagined how real the virtual world of TrekLens actually is.

When I read about your passing I felt something I do not usually feel when I learn about the death of someone I know but have never met. But this is simple. I have indeed met you. We met in the few kind words you offered in comment to some of my shots. We shared certain feelings about certain images we both saw. How simple.

I hope you were happy here.
