| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Back in 2005 when my wife and I spent our 10 year anniversary in Hot Springs, Arkansas, I used one evening to shoot a bunch of the old bath houses at night with existing light. Most of them had very little, if any, lighting, so that existing light was mostly from car headlights as vehicles sped down Central Ave. It made for an interesting effect, but almost all the photographs turned out with a yellow hue. Since I didn't care about RAW back then, I am unable to change the white balance now. The play of the headlights following the building from a heavily leaved, tree-lined boulevard made for some wild shadows.
I was going through my archives and started playing with these images in Photoshop, then in the DxO Filmpack V.2 filter. Over the next week or so I will post what I came up with.
This one is of the Superior Bath House, the first old bathhouse as you walk through the park from downtown Hot Springs. Well, the whole National Park is in downtown Hot Springs... You can see the Arlington Hotel in the background, I posted a photograph of that hotel the other day. Of course, I misidentified it as the Majestic Hotel for some reason, but repaired that this morning.
This was shot with my trusty Olympus 8080WZ and a 13 second exposure at f/8, ISO 64, converted to Black & White with the DxO Filmpack V.2 filter to look like it was shot with a specific type of film. Unfortunately, I neglected to record the actual settings in that filter. I am sure it would be interesting to some, so I will have to do so in the future.
So, this was experimental, but I liked the outcome so I thought I would share.
Have a great day today and a better day tomorrow! |
