[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are six species in North America, mostly southern in distribution. Two are medium sized, and four very small in size. Their body coloration is mostly black, brown or blue. Wing coloration is varied among the species and within the sexes.

They are inhabitants of marshes and temporary ponds. And regularly breed in brackish water.
