I shot this after a hard day of work and play on the ranch. He's my son, a boy of 9, with a spirit 100 centuries old.
I sharpened and used halftone to create the coarse black and white effect.

Fine portrait. Excellent sharpness. Subtle lighting.
Eyes could be ligthened up a little would make a huge difference.
And you can see that mature spirit in his eyes! I love the black and white along with the flat, bright gray background, which adds a somewhat melancholy feel to the portrait. This emphasizes his spirit. Excellent clarity and detail that shows his freckles, and the textures of his hair and skin. The crop at the top is excellent, which brings focus to his eyes and expression and makes the portrait unique. I would probably take the shot at a POV that allows us to see more of the out-of-focus trees in the back, to emphasize the nice shallow depth of field, OR I would clone out the trees behind his neck since they are sort of distracting. But really beautiful and timeless shot, his eyes seem to be a little tired but genuinely smiling. And nice thin black frame that keeps everything in and popping out. TFS!
