[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this picture as we drove down the beach road in fort lauderdal just as Katrina came ashore. She was a categorey 1 at this stage, but still a force! It was a scary heart pumping moment. I snapped the pic just as the wind lifted the catatmarans into the air and the sand was whipped up creating an almost misty feel. Its hard to see but the ocean is only a few meters behind the catamarans. Please let me know of any improvements that could be made.

Hi Spencer, wellcome on TL.
about the picture I think is very well done because it expresses the force of the nature....
In my opinion (but it's only my personal taste) your B&W is so strongly graphic that may be a good framing would enhanced the mood.
well done
Paolo

Hi Ian!
Fantastic shot! Every aspect of a storm -- speed, urgency, fear and a kind of strange beauty only a storm of Katrina's strength can create on the earth -- is captured here. I just can't think this picture could be in color. Great job.

I agree with paul. leave it as it is but consider adding a suitable frame to enhance further.
If you'd like to know how to build frames easily, reply and I'll help you.

Ian you have a great journalistic photograph already. I would have liked to see the top of the palm trees as well. THe choice of black and white is perfect as the sand blowing away from the beach is impressive. I have experienced these type of events as I used to live by the ocean during my youth, and the noise one heas is enough to scare you. Well done.

Great job getting yourself out there to document.
It would be nice if it had some more depth to it, for example if the sidewalk went up through the frame instead of going right to left. Also the Lack of BG in this hurts it a bit.
Here maybe the nothingness is the background and some may be ok w/ that, but as a documentary photo it needs to have a location identifier. But for a snapshot of a storm, Great Job! And Welcome to TL
Matt

Hurricane! We eard a lot about that this year!
You show well the wind here! I like the shadow aspect in the trees!

Great shot. Don't change a thing. I like the B&W, because it gives it a surreal feeling.

Welcome to TL, Ian! Be careful: if you enter like a hurricane, you'll be gone too soon! Nice first entry. The high contrast B&W works well, and the blurry spray at the bottom sure gives us a sense of wind. The winding path is a nice bonus. Great work!

G'day Ian and welcome. Wonderful image you have presented here. Excellent composition considering the wind force and the ime you had to take the shot. Enhancements? for mine none. Framing? On this site you will find one Paul Indigo. Paul has a blog site and has some rather interesting notes regarding framing, well worth the read. Keep up the good work Ian and thanks for sharing Katrina.

Hello Ian, Welcome to TL!
what a powerful pic to start with!! I'm stucked by the view because I know this place but when I was there it was calm and sunny! Never thought it could be like this!
Man, you're bold to make this shot!!...

Yes, I agree with the others, leave it as it is... B&W was a really good choice! TfS
cheers
ToM
