Symbol of the Future

This is the Disney World monorail, taken at the Epcot park during a recent daytrip my wife and I took.
The original "Mark IV" monorail was built in 1971 by the Martin Marietta Corporation in California, and shipped to Florida. In 1989 the system was upgraded and the "Mark VI" monorail was installed, built by Bombardier out of Canada.
The first Disney monorail was built by the Alweg Company from Europe, in 1959 for Disneyland in California.
The typical elevated monorail, as pictured here, never really gained wide use, but in the 1950s and 60s was certainly seen as a symbol of the technological wonders the future held. Japan and Europe have made the most use of them as mass transit systems, while most of the monorails in North America are installed in amusement parks, such as Disney.

Interesting shot and good angle Robert. It looks to me like a wilde creature, like a leopard or a snake, lieing on a tree branch in a hot African summer :) Thanks for sharing.
Very nice POV and composition. Well balanced exposure, great DOF and nice colors.

And in Africa there is nothing even closely resembling this. Well composed and very interesting.

good capture and history of the monorail. that is similar to the monorail in seattle. well done
Hello Robert!
Good idea to chose a curve for this shot. The lines are much more pleasant It is indeed surprising they are not taht many in service after 50 years of improvements! In Europe and Asia they are more commonly used in big cities.
Thanks for the usefull note.
Robert
we will be having this soon in Singapore :) the new monorail is replacing the old one which has been used for over 10 years
i plan to go take soon photos of it when its complete :)
