This was taken at Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is one of the original "tourist attractions" in Florida, around long before Disney World. It consists of several acres of paths through gardens, flowers, ponds, trees and shrubbery. I caught this honeybee collecting pollen (you can see some on one of her rear legs). I took six or seven shots of the bee darting from flower to flower, and this is the only one I caught when she was in mid-air. Worker bees are the ones who collect the nectar and pollen and all worker bees are female. Drones are males and are kept in the hive to mate with the queen.
Cropped, saturation increased +10, selective USM on the bee only. |

Very good for a first post Robert, I like the bright colors of the flowers, and the detail on the bee is superb, well done!
Great shot! Very professional. It gives me the ebie gebbies - the bee has such good detail.

Hi Robert, so we both posted bees. You have a good capture. I like how you can see the pollen on the bees legs. The flowers certainly make the photo 'shine'. Well done.
