[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Every once in a while I have to dig into the mysteries of the depths of post processing where you can completely change a photo to fit the mood you are in. I have closely observed some of the techniques I have liked here on TL to give me some inspiration.
The huge herons would fly in at dusk over the lake at the park and roost in the trees along the shore. I set my camera and tripod up one night and hoped I could get some shots of them. To my delight, the great herons came, but to my dismay, I did not bring all the equipment I needed for such shots and all of them were too dark. So I thought I would have some fun with one in hopes I could create something worthy. I'm not sure about the worthy part, but I did have fun. I will post the original photo along as a WS for you to comapre them.

I think this is one of those compositions you either love or hate. Since it is so different from what I usually do, I am not even sure myself what I think of it....And I am curious if you like it or if it was a big mistake.
************************************
Tech:
1. Brightened dark photo of heron roosing on tree branch as much as I could.
2. Re sized in 3 steps.
3. Used paintbrush to add color buds to the tree limbs and only added a touch of yellow to the Heron's beak.
4. Applied a filter called "Accented Edges"and the photo suddenly lit up with colors from the filter.
5. Framed, signature and logo

My impression is that this has a bit of an Oriental look...maybe? Stop by and let me know what you think......:O)

2 thumbs up for the pp! B

Nothing is a mistake in photography, only artistic embellishments. I've rescued a few photos in post processing :)
I like the coloured buds you added. You certainly have brought this colourful heron to life. Nice job. It really does have an oriental feel to it, especially with the black background.

Wow! You saved this one for sure. A very interesting study in what can be done digitally to rescue a less than perfect photo. You excel at so many techniques and proceedures. I always look forward to your additions each morning as the brighten the day.

It looks like a stained glass work using dark shade glasses. Nice work.

Did you forget your logo, or has it disappeard in the neon glow, Kat ? Well for me, I like it. I like the WS version as well, you could have added flash in PP to it to brighten it up, you know... Anyway, this is a truly original Sandpiper. TFS.

Very adventurous pp work Kat. You have certainly created a work of art. Just shows what you can do when you have a mind to. Exceptional work resulting in a marvellous image. Well done.

Peter

interesting work Kat, the colors are bright and vivid I like the black background as well.

I like it - it almost looks like it was made of coloured glass - great PP :)

BTW - I also like your WS version.

This is fantastic it gave me the feel of something out of Arabian nights, excellent PP Kath, I love the overall effect, well done!

Hi Kathleen. Like the image you've posted here. Somehow it reminds me of Japanese art, like if it was done in molten glass..........(???!!).....allrighty then! Oh, while I'm writing this I see you have the same feeling about it.
