[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was an alternative to the super bowl game at a party I attended. Of course, the football game was the main focus, but pool was also enjoyed. I'm a terrible pool player, but attempted... lost to a "pro".

I added contrast, darkened the photo to bring out the shadows more. I left the felt of the table as is with out noise reduction.

Thank you for your comments, critiques, and workshopsl.

Lisa

Hi Lisa - firstly, apologies for only going with 1-pointer here :-)

I think that pool tables offer great photographic opportunities, take a look at this shot, for example.

So, I like the idea of a shot on a pool table and I like the vivid rex baize crossed with shadows - I also like the low point of view.

But...the triangle is too central, I think there's some OE and there's nothing to grab you here - no real point of focus or interest. Maybe some chalk or a cue somewhere in shot - or a hand resting on the table - would break up the image a bit and add some interest. Also, perhaps not shoot quite so straight on, to the side of the triangle - shooting at the apex may have been more interesting.

My views are worth what you paid for them :-)

Hi Lisa, I agree with Richard's critique. There is significant OE on the light side of the balls. I think your Fstop was too low. I would have shot it at F7.1 and gone up from there. Your sharpness Fstop will be around F7.1. Since these are still objects, I would even push to F11 and sit the camera down on the table for the shot, Just like I would see it and I line up to make the break. If you put your camera on Apeture Priority, and set the F stop how you want it, your shutter speed will adjust on it's own. There is one setting that you can set and you have to make sure BOTH are set.
Hey, maybe a closer shot of the balls...even a macro would be cool!!
B-)
