Moon Over Cathedral
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, in Savannah, Georgia. Constructed of brick, building began in 1873 and was completed in 1879. The spires were added in 1896.
Two years later the cathedral caught fire and was nearly destroyed. Only the outer walls and spires were left standing. It was refurbished and re-opened in 1900. Stained glass windows and painted murals were added, and the cathedral was formally rededicated in 1912.
Only in 1920 was the cathedral consecrated - its debt had been cleared. A church might be dedicated and open for service, but was only consecrated when it was free of debt.

Nice clear capture of this beautiful building. Interesting info. And the moon adds that little bit extra.
hi robert, wow this is a great shot, the colors are great and the moon really adds spice to the overall feel,
well done,cheers,scott
Nice shot and very nice detail on the moon.
I think I would have cloned out those leaves in the left side of the frame. Also, I'd like to see this shot with a wider angle. The framing is very tight on the cathedral and I'd like to see a little bit more of the surroundings.
Cheers,
Jens
