I got this idea from a posting someone had done with colored floats in a boat. Apologies for not remembering who.

The magic selection tool in Elements 5 made the selection pretty easy. I fine tuned that with the selection brush and the shift and alt keys.

I was originally going to make the background B&W, but that was still too busy, so I tried reducing the output levels instead and made the background almost disappear. I also tweaked the hue/saturation a little. There are many possibilities.

Hope this gives you an idea too!
Reid

Nice idea indeed Reid. Lantern shots are always interesting.
I think this would be improved a bit by severe cropping top and bottom to give a more panoramic shape/effect. It might prevent the eye from being a bit distracted by the 'busy' background.
I do like the colours. I wonder if a tad more saturation would lift the colours a bit more.

Hej Reid
I find this PP work real good, it is a good idea, that you only and only iff you are looking very carfully can see a little bit off the background. Good idea, great work, my compliments and TFS.
I have made a workshop, because I would have made the latern to the right be full visible. Hope you dont mind.

Regards
Jens.

Hi Reid, I think it works great what you did.
Lovely sight - would like to hang my whole backyard full with these paper lanterns - great mood they provide.

It's cool! The atmosphere of pleasant party is inviting! I enjoy it! Jens had a good idea to finish the partial hided lantern...
Tones are here soft and i like the way it is present with soft atmospheric light on the background too!
