Sunrise on the Coast

Grey dawn on the sand-hills -- the night wind has drifted
All night from the rollers a scent of the sea;
With the dawn the grey fog his battalions has lifted,
At the call of the morning they scatter and flee.
Like mariners calling the roll of their number
The sea-fowl put out to the infinite deep.
And far overhead -- sinking softly to slumber --
Worn out by their watching the stars fall asleep.

To eastward, where rests the broad dome of the skies on
The sea-line, stirs softly the curtain of night;
And far from behind the enshrouded horizon
Comes the voice of a God saying "Let there be light."

And lo, there is light! Evanescent and tender,
It glows ruby-red where 'twas now ashen-grey;
And purple and scarlet and gold in its splendour --
Behold, 'tis that marvel, the birth of a day!

imho the photo has a big potential. a couple of suggestions :
- i think it would be best to use the smallest aperture and fastest speed possible for kind of shot to better capture the sun
- also underexposed it a couple of stops will help capturing the full feature of the sun
- leave out the palm tree leaves on the right
just my 0.02.

Hi Fran,
I think your composition and framing looks good here. Nice coloring of the sky. I do agreee about croping out the palm leaves on the right.
Scott

Extremely beautiful evening light work, you have got an amazing composition.

This was one of those moments when you're glad you have your camera with you, wasn't it, Fran? You found the perfect "poem" for the scene too.

Thanks for sharing this!
Gayle :)

Superficially, this doesn't seem like so great of a picture. But with study, I detect a certain amount of genius behind it. What an odd collection... the tower, the palm silhouettes, the putt-putt clouds... but assembled just so, it really makes a thought provoking scene. Hmmm... I'm still scratching my head on this one!

It is always good to capture the rising sun. I just wish I could get out of bed to do the same!
Nicely seen Fran, that Christmas tree in the middle is nicely lit up with a big yellow ball. Super colours, and yes, "Let there be light."
Good one,
Janice

fran,
simply beautiful!!

ps:thanks for your comment on my photo, you are the only one actually translated the mood and expression right.

PS: Thank you very much for your comment on Road to…

Welldone Fran. You have to have courage to take a photo like this ..direct against the sun but
you passed the test ^__^
Good note on what 'eyusuf' said about the speed.
TFS hug and bye
John

Hi Fran,
Excellent composition, The colors are superb. I like this great sky with the shapes of the clouds and the plam tree silhouette that contrast, Very well done.
Luc

such an exotic and romantic environment, the light stunning, all of that around the Louisiana Eifel Tower, hi? Good comp, Fran, thanx, M, (*_*)

When one is attempting to capture a sunrise it is normally a fleeting moment when the 'magic' is at its best. Yes I guess the leaves on the right could have been cropped but INHO it adds another element. Wonderful composition Fran, soft colouring, magic silhouettes and congratulations on not attempting to alter what Mother Nature supplied. TFS

PS Many thanks for your comment on Esk Valley Sunset

sergio

beautiful light here Fran :)
lovely composition

points added :)

Hi Fran,
very warm, summer-looking photo. I like the contrast of industrial stuff (tower, power lines, street lamp) with nature (palm and sea). They do not collide with each other. Tasteful this small part of another palm on the right. Works as frame and suggests there are more threes around. tfs

Marek

Hi Fran
Thats funny I did not get my trek alert, nealy missed this beautiful pic of yours. Like the composition, you made the tower and wires somehow blend in harmony with nature.
Paul

Hi Fran
Good composition with daily life elements. Nice colors as well. The only thing seems to me disturbing is the sun light is still very harsh and making the eyes tired. Isn't it? TFS

AN electric sun who is well complete with the shadow of that tree! Colors are warms!

We all like sunrises especially on holidays when days slow dawn.
