The Bald Cypress is a species of conifer native to the southeastern United States and occurs mainly in wetlands that are subject to periodic flooding by silt-rich 'brownwater' rivers. Bald Cypresses growing in swamps have a peculiarity of growth called cypress knees. These are woody projections sent above the water from the roots. Their function is thought to be to provide oxygen to the roots that grow in the low dissolved oxygenated waters typical of a swamp. It is a large tree, reaching 30-45 m tall and with a trunk diameter of up to 3 m. The leaves are spirally arranged but twisted at the base to lie in two horizontal ranks, unlike most other cypresses, it loses the leaves in the winter months (hence the name 'bald' and the bare limbs in this photo). The cones are green maturing gray-brown, globular, and disintegrate when mature to release the largest seed of any species in the cypress family, and are water-dispersed.
The Bald Cypress was designated the official state tree of Louisiana in 1963, and is considered by some to be a symbol of the southern swamps.

“Techie Talk”
First find a stand of cypress trees…brave the gators, nutria and the snakes(Make sure you wear hip boots)or go to Lafrienere Park like I did.

Josine

Lovely capture Fran regardless of the dull skies. Good even colours, great POV and we even have 'swans' flying under the little bridge. TFS and hugsssss

Hi Fran,
this looks like a great place to catch some nice water wildlife. Lovely scenery, good POV. Excellent colors and details.
TFS..Sku

Hi Fran,
What a serene and peaceful surrounding. It does remind me of a bridge in my country -no cypress of course - that I've not visited for many years now.
Thanks for the informative note

Hi Fran.Very nice picture and beautiful green.
Bosco

fran,
your tech talk is more interesting than the actual note!!
good shot, simple yet graceful, bald is beautiful indeed.

Very good botanical notes, scary technical notes (homogenise/past your eyes), like the pic also, love the birds flying towards you ready to attack. (they got the word from the ducks)...
Paul
Take a look at workshop of cigar store(new one)

Hello Fran, I like this photo of the wooden pathway across the cypress.

It must be great to walk overy the water. But could we call this "extreme photography" with these gators and the snakes ;))

Well spoted. Have a great day! Yan :)

Are you talking about Perryhooter here Fran (bald is beautiful..lol)..you know what they say about bald men.. he he..

But no, were talking about trees here..nicely capture, and yes i see the birds flying under the bridge also.. thats cool..

thanks for sharing and the info.
Regards
Dawn.

I'm looking around for a bald man!!
"Gators, nutria and the snakes" - thanks Fran, I think I'll leave all that to you, as I don't have hip boots. We don't need them in NZ as our biggest nuisance in NZ are the sand flies way down in the South Island. What's NUTRIA please?
Very interesting trees, I have heard of them, but never knew about them before. Thank you Fran for all that info,
Cheers
Janice

Hi Fran...
Wow... Perfect composition and shot as usual, my friend.... The colors and light are wonderful... Also wonderful reflection on the water...
TFS...
Stay well..
Salim.

Good concept, clean and clear. The info on the trees very informative, I never knew... I can almost smell the musty swamp water from here. I like this shot. Is that ducks or seagulls flying underneath the walking bridge?

Thanks for the View

beautiful landscape with great colours!
Nice details, composition, ligth, idea, note...
Thanks Ana:)

Rob

It give me the impression the tree grow from the water and changed as a bridge! That's cool and nice! Good illusion and concept!
