This one is for Magda…she named these power towers Louisiana Eiffel Towers.

This power tower is located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. It is a brackish lake in southeastern Louisiana, the second largest salt-water lake in the United States after the Great Salt Lake in Utah and the largest lake in Louisiana. It covers an area of 630 square miles (1630 square km) with an average depth of 12-14 feet (about 4 meters) and is aproximately 24 miles wide. The south shore forms the northern boundary of the cities of New Orleans, and its two largest suburbs Metairie and Kenner. This is the lake that flooded New Orleans and surrounding areas.

The lake was created 4,000-2,600 years ago as the evolving Mississippi River Delta formed its southern and eastern shorelines with alluvial deposits. Its Native American name was Okwata ("Wide Water"). In 1699, French explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, renamed it Pontchartrain after Louis Phélypeaux, comte de Pontchartrain, the French Minister of the Marine, chancellor of France and minister of finance during the reign of France's "Sun King," Louis XIV, for whom Louisiana is named.

Human habitation of the region began at least 3,500 years ago, but increased rapidly with the arrival of Europeans about 300 years ago, leading to a current population of over 1.5 million.

In the 1920s the Industrial Canal in the eastern part of the city was dredged to provide a direct navigable water connection, with locks, between the Mississippi River and the lake.

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway was constructed in the 1950s and 1960s, connecting New Orleans (by way of Metairie) with Mandeville and bisecting the lake in a north-northeast line. At 24 miles (39 km), it is the longest bridge in the world.

I have included a satellite view of the lake in the workshop.

Hi Fran,
a wonderful sunset, and yes it sure resembles the Eifel tower. Beautiful colors and lovely details. I like the silouhete of the bird in the foreground a lot. Nicely composed and framed.

Very beautiful sunset Fran,
The colors are superb and I like all the great silhouette that surround the photo. Excellent way to present that power tower.
Very well done.
Luc

Great image I like the colours and the subject. I just find the corner palm leaf a little distracting, but still I like the image. The title is perfect for this image; hmm I'm sure we could fit a restaurant on top of the tower, maybe
Mr. Magic eye could be the head chef. (I heard that the electric bills were very low-just have to learn how tap in on the existing lines)LOL

Have a great photo hunting day!

Marie-Lise

Hello Fran.
I like it title :o)
Very good point of view and reflection on water.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day, kind regards.

Hi Fran,
looks like yet another "sunset photo" but in fact it doesn't :-). It does resemble Eiffel Tower but ... transported into the lake :-))) Very nice POV, colours and mood.

fran,
what a wonderful sight. good capture and composition with light, color and the elements. the lone bird on the foreground adds life to the shot.

he he hey, Fran, way to go girl!!! This is a beauty, good comp and wonderful colours, thanx, MMMMMMM (*_*)

Hi Fran,
Great shot! I reallly like the composition and framing on this one. Great warm tones and colors from the setting sun. Excellent job managing the difficult exposure. Awesome!
Scott

I remember having a near-panic attack driving across the Pontchartrain bridge the first time. It freaked me out not to be able to see land when I was out in the middle. I had a deathgrip on the steering wheel!

Clever title, and a beautiful sunset. I think I might like having about two inches cropped off the top, personally. Seems like a horizontal format would be pretty!

Still...velly nice!
Gayle :)

Wonderfull sundown! Great photo, bye
Josine

Hello Fran.
Absolute super shot. Great mood in the sky. Thanks and
take care

Hi Fran,

Beautiful visual, composition
wonderful, a beautiful show.
the reflex of the sun close to the tower
it is wonderful. Big!!
Congratulations

Sérgio

Hi Fran,

This is a great shot, and its a first for me as I've never seen a pylon situated on the water before. I especially love the warm colours here and the silhouette of the rocks and lonely seagull.
IMHO I would have cropped out the excessive sky and tree branches at the top of shot. Just a tiny nit pick.

Overall.. Great shot!

Regards

John

Wow... very, very nice work Fran, silhouettes, colours and frame are great. TFS.
Regards,
Victor

As we told you... Electricity as you can see... Can renew again and again! But please use it.... Cause see what's happen when nobody take it!

Admit the sun had the perfect position for that little improvisation! With a great control... Colors of fire but not oversaturation so destructive to the mood! And i'm sure the highest resolution you probably have, would be much delicate to see.
Cause i know that the limit of 200k obligatory a limit in that kind of gradiant... I experience it sometime....
All that to say how clear are the fine lines in that condition...
Excellent!

Nice colors and comparison. Well done.
